Guy in the white coveralls will be picking up his last check on the way out.

What is the purpose of the chain they wrap around the pipe?

Spinning chain. It spins the pipe to screw it down into the other section of pipe

Though new rigs no longer use spinning chains due to safety. New rigs use the top drive to screw the pipe down

They’ll call a fishing crew that has tools to retrieve it. It’s not cheap.

Here is a video of the proper way to trip pipe. Complete with cig hanging out of his mouth and flipping the bird. This man is a professional

No hard hats, a cig, and some butt crack. There a code violation in there somewhere?

I want to know what the guy in the foreground says when he lifts both arms up to emphasize his point, and I want to know what the guy walking past him is saying into his hand/under his breath. They all seem a bit disgusted with the guy in the white jumpsuit.

The reactions by the crew are hilarious. First guy throws his hands up like wtf. Next guy walks by with a literal facepalm. Then the guy who fricked it up stopping to look back at his frickup before leaving.

I was on a rig that dropped the drill string in 5000 feet of water. Something about a tool which in order to unlock and separate you have to do a sequence of steps, which was done inadvertently during normal operations.

ROV went down and found a spaghetti mess on the seafloor.

Serious question, what’s harder - retrieving a tool from a well bore or retrieving a tool from the seafloor in 5,000’ of water?

I love all this oilfield terminology.
I wish I understood it.
