This guy:
quote:

Scott Drake, better known as The Drake, was a mutual friend of Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer, often referred to with the phrases like "Love the Drake" or "Hate the Drake" depending on their mood. He has had a very rocky relationship with his fiancée, Allison who also caused him quite a bit of personal grief.

*Edit: never mind apparently they’re talking about some pop singer.

Asking for a friend: why was Drake not a good fill-in for Frank? Are they totally different styles of work or do they have a rivalry? Is it Metallica-Megadeth or Biggie-Tupac kind of rivalry?

Drake seems more pop rap and Frank Ocean more R&B rap. I don't really know much about either's style except what popular songs they have though.

The Drake v. Ocean beef is one of the most intense in US-Canadian relations right now.

Why does it bother you so much? Pop Culture is not so much evil, as it is retarded. And embarrassing.

Shitty quality...the music and the people who listen to it.

Funny thing is the guys here that are claiming they don’t know who drake is are the same guys that wear baggy, pleated suits and think cargo shorts are stylish.

The Dave Matthews of our time, as far as I can tell.

I didnt know who Drake was until his name came up in a basketball thread a few months ago. I wouldn't know one thing he's done. Same with Frank Ocean, who I couldn't pick out in a room full of nuns. Never seen him or heard him. Billy Ocean is another matter.

Exactly. Even I don't listen to that music, but you couldn't escape that In My Feelings song. It was everywhere on social media with people recording videos dancing outside their cars.
I dont remember that at all, but I have no social media. I apparently missed it on this site too.

It's pretty easy to miss things in pop culture today with satellite radio and chord cutting the cable.

Drake is more hip-hop with R&B influences while Frank is more R&B with hip-hop influences.

Drake has mass-appeal largely from finding a successful musical formula and sticking to it. Frank is breaking into mass-appeal by being an immensely talented writer and singer who is probably putting out some of the best music in his genre in the past 20 years.

The amount of disrespect in this thread towards Frank is rough. Y’all need to give Channel Orange a listen and get back with me.

Exactly. There isnt just one MTV or just the radio that, in the past would have exposed you to all current pop culture. It has been years since I've watched a tv series on either CBS, ABC or NBC. I realized the other day I couldn't name a tv show on those channels except that Young Sheldon and Arbishola they're always hyping.

It is frustrating to show up to a concert and be entertained by the wrong gay musician.
