So I'm building a new house and our subdivision backs up to an older subdivision. I have to be 24" above grade top of concrete for my foundation. We just finished putting in the house pad.

Long story short, got text at 6 am this morning from the neighbor with pictures of his back yard flooded. My lot does not drain onto his, but do to us having to meet the elevation, he can no longer drain onto my property as he had for years before this was developed.

He wants me to pay to put in drainage so his land can drain. I told him he is responsible for draining the water in his lot and so long as I wasn't draining on to his, it wasn't my issue. Told him I would do the best I could when we grade out to help it drain, but his yard is lower than mine and always had been except for a small swell running through the middle of my property.

Am I going to have an issue here? Wife is worried sick and driving me fricking nuts about it.

Tldr: neighbor is pissed because I built a house pad and he can no longer drain on to my property. I do not drain onto his property.

Oh this bitch is the same neighbor behind me who wrote 8 letters to the city council when my side neighbor built saying they brought in too much dirt.

Aside from being an inconsiderate jerk, I don’t think you did anything wrong.

Tell the neighbor to eat a dick and forget about him. It's his problem now.

Not your problem.

Take a dump on his bakers rack to establish dominance or he will continue to bother you.

Rent a skidsteer, get some budweisers, and create a new drainage path for him. Then send him a bill.

did you sit there and watch the water not move from your property to his? Because water flows high to low.

I'm typing using Swype in a phone dick lol.

And I want a jerk about it, I was nice but he just kept asking what I was gonna do about it right now, over and over until I finally said, he was responsible for drainage of his in yard.

And it isn't a Mcmansion and these are the poorer neighbors behind us. I will put up a privacy fence and never see him every again once I move in. Not even same neighborhood.

If you are in Louisiana, you should talk to an attorney. He may have a natural servitude of drain that you cannot impede.

I personally helped my dirt guy shoot the house pad. I'm close to 1/2" higher in the back and crowned 1/2" in the middle. My Property is dry. His is a lake.

What’s the size of the pad vs the size of the lot?

Eh, who cares about watershed in Louisiana?

Water leaves your property and then magically disappears.

Every property for themselves, says the OT.

I told him I will do my best in the end but I can only do so much. There is a fiber optic line that runs along our property line and I can only do so much.

So you bought a lot touching property with poor neighbors, but the fact that it isn't the same neighborhood makes it okay.

Pad takes up most of the lot, atleast towards the back as it's in a culdesac so the lot is a triangle.

I maintain the servitudes in all locations.

That happens a lot in older neighborhoods. Just make sure you’re following the rules.
