Councilman Rowdy Gaudet wants to toughen rules against such races on public streets, giving city-parish judges the ability to levy a $500 fine for first offenders and then $1,000 for second and subsequent infractions.

What happens if you don’t pay the fine?
I’m guessing nothing unless you get pulled over, then what?
More fines? A night in jail?

It’s pretty much too late, people know the cops don’t have the manpower to look for them & the judges aren’t going to do anything & if they do they will be released due to Covid or some other BS

Nothing is going to change

A coworker was killed one night because of kids drag racing. Sad times. RIP DN

Yes.
This is a big safety issue to say the least. Innocent people are killed by the idiots. Plus it’s crazy to hear revving engines across the city all night long.

Thats why they put all those curves down Ponderosa, because it used to be THE spot for a good mile race. The city literally put curves at every corner from Florida to Old Hammond.

Yeah, that's the big problem in Baton Rouge

It is, because people are being robbed/shot/dying in car crashes more than the media reports. Plus it’s the soundtrack for the growing lawlessness in BR.

but a larger fine won’t fix.

Anyone linked with these events through social media caught racing, doing burnouts, parking in medians, etc. should have their cars impounded and license revoked for 6 months. When they have to take the bus or bum rides everywhere they will feel it.

The BRPD is helpless in these situations because our legal system deals with the problem as an individual offense rather than a larger organized crime issue. Which it is.

Seizing the vehicles involved and impounding them until the full fine is paid could work.

Of course, the city parish then has a ton of Geo Metros which have been pimped out for drift racing sitting in a parking lot somewhere.

Big way to get it back would be to start enforcing the fricking law, but a lot of that is hamstrung by SWB and her handpuppet MP.

They could break up the street parties on Sherwood in the racetrack parking lot by quarters

Quarters and Boil & Roux, with early assistance from Vegas Vape, ruined that entire area.

Most people have no idea how bad it is in Baton Rouge. The news covers a very small segment of what happens nightly.

Being in the general vicinity of Cedarcrest probably had a lot to do with it.

Police in this state (and elsewhere) do not enforce any traffic laws.

I don't know who is giving these posters tickets, but I haven't seen a cop working traffic since Alton Sterling.
