You need to calculate your ASCVD risk score

I'm getting 3.48....216÷62. that rounds up to 3.5
OP says HDL = 72
216/72 = 3

Diet is an option, but he knows that long term you wont be compliant. So the inevitable is to take a low script statin.
Also, what were your numbers last time checked? Maybe theyve doubled and he sees that as an issue.

That's what I figured. He's pretty old and probably isn't keeping up with current science. I've been doing keto and he about freaked out at all the eggs, butter, bacon, red meat, etc I eat. Told me to cut out the fat and to add more whole grains
Guess I'll start looking for another primary care physician. I'm in Dallas btw... Any recommendations?

My lab results were almost exactly the same (i work in lab). All within 5% of yours (cholesterol wise). At 43 had a heart attack out of the blue...5 bypasses. Weight was 195 a 6 foot 2.
Diet was no help at all, no matter how strict I was.
I'd take the statins.

What kind of diet? Low fat?

How old are you, do you smoke, and what race? Need that info to calculate your ASCVD risk. If over 7.5% you should start a statin.

How can I do that?

Your risk is very low, I would not recommend a statin at this point.
ASCVD risk is the risk of a cardiovascular event over the next 10 years. Statins are recommended for primary prevention if higher than 7.5%, and a high intensity statin if over 10%.

Your numbers do not seem off. Honestly, your doxtor cannot discern that type of information just from traditional lipid testing.
Your doctor needs to get that information from a particle size test to determine if you truly are a candidate for a statin.

Thanks for the calculator and the info

Statins cause all kinds of problems. My mother and step dad both came off of them due to side effects. They don't offer a huge benefit other than making a shite ton of money for the drug companies.

you need a statin end of discussion.

I agree, skip the statins. You can reduce it with nutrition. Before statins came along the high used to be 250.
