Dr. Stephanie Cave/Cypress Integrative Medicine

Going to try to keep this short though it's going to still be a TLDR candidate. My 3 yr old is likely facing multiple diagnosis of Autism, Epilepsy, and Speech Apraxia. We have had him in therapy since a month before his 2nd birthday and have been to more doctor appointments than I can count. My wife found this doctor above and I am trying to look into if she is legitimate or not. She has a M.S. in clinical chemistry and M.D. from LSU. She supposedly combines traditional medicine with alternative and it has taken 10 months on a waiting list to get my son in with her. I'm not feeling great about it, but my wife is all about her.
Personally I have never been a proponent of the alternative side of medicine, but I'm willing to try anything safe if it helps my son. She isn't anti-vaccine kind of crazy, but she believes in spreading them out instead of giving them 4 at a time. My main issue is that I can't find a single current review of this doctor, other than the generic 1 to 5 star rating where you have no idea what they even saw her for. Has anyone seen her personally or know her that can speak either for or against her? Parents in my situation can easily go broke looking to help their children and I try to be as smart as possible about my spending. I will happily spend every cent to my name if it gives him a better life. What I am scared of happening is spending every cent, then not being able to afford something that might actually help.
TLDR cliffs:
Does anyone know Dr. Stephanie Cave of Cypress Integrative Medicine and what is your opinion of her?

We sent our child to her. I wish I hadn't.

Don't have anything to offer except to say I'm sorry and good luck.

Not a good one. My sister's son has autism as does my daughter. We went the ABA/speech therapy route and my sister chose kelation/ vitamins and organic food. Her son is significantly lower functioning than our daughter. My daughter is in HS as a Sophomore in mainstream classes. She has self awareness and social interaction challenges but otherwise does well.
In short.. I would do more investigation before relying on any doctor. Best wishes!

Do you mind getting into more detail? Understand if you would rather not.

Thanks for the reply

This is non-negotiable for me. He is doing both, as well as OT, currently and will continue on that path. We are looking to cross every bridge we can though.

We tried the GFCF stuff on our own. After 3 months without seeing a single change, I pulled him off. He eats cheese pizza and Chicken Nuggets (shitload of bbq sauce required) now.

My son's main issue is he doesn't talk. He spoke very well until he was 19 months old. One night he had a 104 fever and was given an Augmentin shot. 15 minutes later he had what we think is a seizure, shaking followed by screaming then completely out of it, but were told by the hospital it was just a normal reaction. That was the last night he spoke for a good 2 years. He is just beginning to say Mama, Pop, and Bye and will be 4 in Aug. Hoping the full scale ABA will get him rolling full speed. Plus anything else we can do.

Most intolerable AB ever, IMO, in any form.
Good luck to you.

Don't have anything to offer on the doctor, but I'm sorry for the pain yall have experienced.
I would keep an open mind with the treatment and try to be nothing with positive about everything with your son.
God bless

Thank you. Again, if it helps I'll find a way to pay for it. I don't understand why they feel the need to charge so much, but I guess if people are willing to pay for it...

I would be very cautious about any form of vitamin therapy/supplements promising results for your child. The scientific research on nutritional interventions is extremely weak, and you can easily spend a fortune on an intervention that won't make any substantial gains.
I work with a team of 4 developmental pediatricians if that lends any credence.

She is nationally recognized for the work that she does with these types of kids, and has been quoted in many books over the years (a couple I have in my office). She knows her stuff and will answer any questions you have as to why/how these treatments work for these kids.
With that said, any type of treatment is a crap shoot. Some treatments work for some kids and don't for others, it's just the way it goes. Try everything and be open. OT, Speech, and any type of social interaction therapy is a must.
Remember it's more than just trying to get these kids through school, etc. You are trying to give them the skills to function in a public/social setting and society, and a lot of people/parents forget that during the journey.

We saw her when my son was around 4 for what we knew then was ADD, but everyone else disputed. We were referred to her, and after spending thousands on all types of crazy blood work and her recommendation of vitamins, no improvement.
I know you're not asking about ADD, but that's my experience with her, so tAke it for what it's worth.
Sorry for what you're going through. If it will help your wife cope, see what she can offer.

My son, who basically a model of perfection, was lost to me overnight, I am cautious about putting his shoes on

Which is my hold up. If I find people that say something worked for them, and can't find anyone saying it is dangerous, I generally give it a shot. Standard doctors are incredibly frustrating as many of them kind of have a game over approach to kid's going through this. I have had an ER doctor go from wanting to do an EEG after he had a seizure to saying, "oh he doesnt' talk? See about getting him diagnosed with Autism being that it's common for kid's with that." Constant search for good and trustworthy help.

Good experience with my wife. But very expensive. Insurance will not pay

I just researched her a bit more. She is a strong proponent of DAN (Defeat Autism Now)methods. There are zero published studies regarding the effectiveness of the DAN method and many of the techniques practiced by DAN physicians are considered harmful by the medical community.
I would stay away.
