Sitting here in the waiting room for 20 minutes now. Appt was at 8:15 for my kid to get a simple physical. Get here early like a good patient, check in and wait. 8:15 rolls around and some more people have arrived. They just start taking the 8 am appt at 8:15. No wonder they are always behind. Then another 20 or so waiting in the room for 5 minutes with the doc. It never improves, stop overbooking your patients and respect other peoples time. I am not a fan

Open the cabinets and drawers in the room and see if you can find anything worth your wait time.

815 appointment?
Doc probably didn’t even arrive at the office until 820.

Get a concierge PCP like a real OT baller and you won’t have to wait with the normal folk

Yes, damn masks, wear it, but touch everything else. Lulz on the poor talk. Nothing in the cabinets so far. But one is locked and I am not Matthew Broderick Wargames level smart enough to uock it.

Doctors offices are inefficient because government involvement has almost eliminated competition. The price fixing that occurs between insurance companies and doctors guarantees margins regardless of operational efficiencies.
Our health care could be fixed by eliminating the tax deduction for health insurance and giving vouchers to the indigent. The first would cause businesses to stop giving health insurance as compensation. This would result in higher salaries and employees shopping for the best value in health care.

Have you tried seeing a doctor that respects your time?
They actually exist, although lower reimbursements and higher overhead costs mean doctors have to see as many patients as possible to keep the lights on, so it’s getting trickier.

around where I live the clinics are owned by docs but staffed with PAs, rarely see the doc but never have to wait more than 3-5 minutes

Yikes.
I’ll wait for the doc.

I don't know any doctors or nurses driving 1994 Honda accords because that's the most reliable vehicle they can afford. It ain't that difficult to keep the lights on.

Get a consigliere and you won't have to wait anywhere ever again.

unless you're seeing a specialist that's the route the PCPs have gone, at least around here

The medical industry sucks, baw. Clinics, hospitals, etc.
don't pay MA's and nurses what they're worth, so they have a hard time keeping good help. Constant turnover & shortages.
Also: don't write your SSN down on the 27 forms they give to new patients.

This is always the case at the pediatrician my kids go to. Fortunately, we always book the first appt unless its an emergency, so even when the Dr comes in late we still get seen first. Also helps my Dr only books 1 patient every 15 minutes, unlike a lot of places that will have multiple patients booked every 15 minutes. Only time waiting is an issue is if there are a number of urgent cases; she will allocate 1 urgent case per hour before kicking them to other Drs in the office, or the urgent care on the other side of town.

That sucks, man. Primary care is way too broad and frankly I think it’s irresponsible to have mid levels acting as the sole care provider for a patient, especially one with complex medical issues or one needing a work up for new issues.
Thanks to govt interference and the corporate practice of medicine we are moving towards a two-tiered health system. Rich/educated will get to see doctors and poor/uneducated/rural will see NPs/PAs. I encourage everyone to listen to the patients at risk podcast. It delves into these issues and how patients are being placed in harm’s way by poorly prepared, independently practicing midlevels. There is a reason why doctors have to undergo so much school and post grad training to practice safely. LINK
