Wouldn't it have been easier to just give his daughter the $70M, and save the trouble of forcing her to go to college to get a career that pays much less, over a lifetime?

I'm pretty sure this isn't the first donation Dre has made to USC's Arts/Business school.
Also, the $70M was split between Dre & Jimmy Lovine.

$70 million for USC?
It's a good school, but it's not THAT selective. He should have spent the cash to get his daughter into Berkeley or Stanford instead.

This is an example of how wealthy people can make the path easier without actually cheating. There is nothing wrong with making a major donation, and then a couple years later the university admitting one of your kids. That is a world different than photoshopping the kid's face on an athlete and paying a personal bribe or hiring someone to take tests for the kid. The other wealthy parents can learn something from this. Donations are tax deductible, bribes are not.

I don't think he and Jimmy Iovine did it to get their children into the school.
Real wealth has their names on buildings and schools. Its a status thing, and at LA's most prestigious school in regards to the entertainment business.
Also, I'm sure they wrote it off their taxes somehow.

There are old money families all over with open scholarships because they donated so much. What school is going to tell a whale donor their kid's 2.0/ 17 act isn't good enough?

He didn't donate it. One of his businesses donated it in his name.
Doesn't really excuse it, but I don't think the donation was made with the intent to get his daughter in...at the time.

It should be allowed and welcomed.
Let's say LSU gets a $5,000,000 donation for a new engineering building to let a dumb rich kid into their school.
That means 10's of thousands of smart students will benefit from the admission of this one dumb student.
That juice is worth the squeeze. It is for the greater good.
Even on a smaller scale, let's say a family donates $200,000 to a scholarship fund to get their kid into LSU. That means several very intelligent, hard working kids will attend LSU that otherwise would not have due to the admission of one dumb kid.
Worth it.

I much rather the Snoop way, be involved with your kid's athletic talents help him to hone those talents and get him a bona fide athletic scholarship to UCLA.
Then he can crap on it quit the team and go to Film School, but nevertheless Snoop did it the right way

Dre's house looks over UCLA , USC is downtown.
I'd personally pick UCLA which is in BellAire/Beverly Hills.
