Restated for clarity: An individual African-American male is more likely to have been convicted of a crime than another individual white American male.

ALL white American males possibly are convicted of more crimes (all added up together) than the total criminal convictions of all African-American males.

There are about four times more white American males than African-American males.

My favorite thing about the NY Times article is that the very first line is that it "confirms" police excessive use of force. Then it immediately goes into why the study is "incomplete" in terms of shootings because there isn't enough data.

The truth is that black men are much more likely to commit violent crimes. That would tend to extend to interactions with police making them more likely to be violent and require detainment by force. The article doesn't mention that. But the Washington post analysis does.

by Dr Boyce Watkins

I’ve been asked all week what I think about Micah X Johnson, the black man who is accused of killing five police officers this week in Dallas, Texas. According to numerous media sources, Johnson’s attacks were driven by the recent police killings of black men, namely Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Of course none of us wants to see violence in any context, but you can’t talk about Johnson’s actions without discussing the context within which those actions took place.

Whenever someone asks me if it was OK for Micah Johnson to do what he did in Dallas, I simply ask if it was OK for the cops to do what they are doing to black men. That’s the problem with doing harm to innocent people – it can, unfortunately, sometimes lead to harmful retaliation.

Personally, I would prefer that Micah Johnson be alive, and the truth is that he and those cops would be alive if the police officers weren’t out there consistently killing innocent people. In fact, Micah might still be serving his country as a member of the United States Military. But instead, they radicalized a young black man by repeatedly murdering those he loved and then telling him that his life means nothing.

So, for any police officers asking me to tell the Micah Johnsons of the world to stand down, I fully expect that they will say the same thing to their fellow officers. I would gladly stop a black man from killing innocent people, but I wonder how readily a cop would stop another officer from killing a black man.

So, the next time an all-white jury decides to acquit an officer who murders a black man in cold blood, I hope they will remember that these actions can often lead to painful and disappointing reactions from innocent young black men who just can’t take it anymore. In other words, everybody loses when our country continues to be committed to black genocide via unjust violence and blatant white supremacy.

That's the rest of it.

I can see his view of it. It's a very slanted view, especially for someone that educated. The black race will never prosper as as long as the educated and outspoken can see things how they are in the real world, or stop acting like they see it one way just to make money.

Intro to one of his courses:

Wealth, Education, Family and Community: A New Paradigm for Black America was a forum hosted by Min. Louis Farrakhan and Dr. Boyce Watkins. Min. Farrakhan and Dr. Watkins discussed the need for a shift in the way people of color think about building wealth, pursuing education and challenging the obstacles to progress which exist in black America today.

Yes, he said if Facebook ever banned Farakhan that it wouldn't matter because all Farakhan info would then be posted on Boyce site.

The only voice of reason has all the downvotes. About what I'd expect on an LSU board.

The thing is this guy probably isn't all that educated. Yea, he has degrees, but how much of that was actually accomplished through his own work and not just handed to him by affirmative action.

Evidently you didn't read the studies mentioned in the NYT and Washington Post. It's not just more white people killed in police encounters, it's more as a proportion of total police encounters. A police encounter for a white person is more likely to end with the white person being killed than a police encounter for a black person is to end with the black person being killed.

I know it doesn't fit the popular narrative and people don't want to believe it, but one of the refreshing things about the truth is that it doesn't give a shite whether it fits a narrative or even whether people believe it.

To be a voice of reason, it's required that you not assert falsehoods as fact. More whites are killed by police AS A PROPORTION OF TOTAL POLICE ENCOUNTERS than blacks.

A white man gets pulled over by police. At the same time, somewhere else, a black man gets pulled over by police. Statistically speaking, there is a greater likelihood that the white man will be killed by the police than that the black man will.

Believe it, or don't. The truth doesn't care.
