I've been in Freeport for 6 yrs working on Gulf Stream projects. The gulfstream units don't use traditional flares. They use ground type, heat shielded infernos. I know because we have done all of the dirt work in them and rocking to prevent the pedestals from falling apart due to the heat. The flare you see in Plaquemine is on an existing unit that had a shutdown with mega changes and is having trouble getting back and staying online.
