Bayou terrebonne is also a bayou that runs north and south, good job

Was actually talking about bayou petit caillou because there happens to be more than one bayou in Terrebonne parish that runs north & south

I’m assuming you are from terrebonne in which your misunderstanding all makes sense.

Misunderstanding of a lame joke about who’s more down the bayou? Must be a lafourche parish thing. Only people from cut off would think they’re better than people from Raceland But no, I’m not from Terrebonne Parish.

the frick it is...

Raceland is not down the bayou... down the bayou starts right after Valentine, before you get to Larose... that's always been pretty much the dividing line, at least it was when I grew up there...

What? My grandparents used to live down the bayou. There are certain areas around where I live that is referred to as "down the bayou".

For Krotz Springs folks, "up the river" = Melville.

You don't want to be from KS.

But you sure as hell don't want to be from Melville.

I know a family that is spread along Bayou Barataria from Crown Point to Lafitte, and I've heard them using UTB and DTB.

The biggest reason these terms are used is because of the topography of the area, all of the bayous in lower Terrebonne and Lafourche run in a generally north south direction. There’s no more than 1 road that connects an of these communities east to west and none of the those roads are really inhabited so east west are directions that aren’t really used. All the bayous have main roads that run along the bayous with short streets that go to the back, typically no more than a few hundred yards. So the only direction you can really travel is up, down, or across. Bayou Lafourche has a 4 lane, but it’s still no more than half a mile from the bayou, not even a half mile. Pointe Aux Chene is unique in that there’s only a road on one side of the bayou, so every house across the bayou has a bridge for a driveway.

If people say “by-you” you are up the bayou, if people say “by-ya”, you are down the bayou.

If it's summer, I go down the bayou to fish Last Isle. If it's winter, I go up the bayou to fish Robinson, etc. Capice?
