isn't Mid-City Lanes (Rock N Bowl) right there?
yeah but it’s named that bc it used to be on the other side of Tulane Ave - which is mid city

Ye ole college inn is right there - used to have the best veal cutlet but that’s irrelevant

I’ve never heard of 8th graders going to HS that seems like a terrible idea to me

It was forced across the board by the Archdiocese a few years ago. The declining numbers overall In Catholic education is forcing closures (elementary so far) and really threw a monkey wrench in a lot of school’s plans when the new grade structure forced schools to add and cut grade levels.

All schools are struggling to maintain enrollment anyway and the NOLA crime issues coupled with exponentially rising costs doesn’t bode well for the future…

Are 8th grades a big thing in NOLA? Most BR high schools don’t have them
wtf? Do kids just skip 8th grade? How can you not have one?

I have zero idea why you would send your girls to Dominican unless you can’t afford other options.

Odd. There aren’t any good public schools. Ben Franklin is considered the best in Louisiana and graduates USA hating communist homosexuals by the hundreds. Parents need to sacrifice and send their kids to catholic schools if they really want the best for their children. And you can bet your bippy that Texas has zero good public schools as well. There’s no such thing as a good government school.

I’ve always maintained that this was about the money. The high schools don’t get funding from church parishes like the grammar schools do. The high schools depend primarily on tuition for support followed by donations from alumni & parents. An easy way to boost tuition income is to have 5 years instead of 4. Thus 8th grade became the entry point for the Catholic high schools.

doesn’t sacred heart have a wait list a mile long? McGhee or Newman are great - but not if you’re looking for a Catholic education. Same for St Martin’s and Country Day

Good luck getting into Lusher or Ben Franklin. Not private schools but you still need to test in

it was mandated in 2013 but when I was at Dominican - they only took 50 high scoring 8th graders, not just anybody could go

Ben Franklin is not regarded as the "best" public school. Both Haynes and Patrick Taylor are "better" public schools - if it's based on the same testing.

Haynes, on a per capita basis, has the most national merit scholars. Which may make some Jesuit alum in here a bit uneasy...

Edit - for the sensitive Blue Jays. Numbers don't lie.

My cousin didn’t get accepted to almost every school she applied to and Dominican was the only school that accepted her. This would have been 95-99. She really struggled in school and tested poorly
