We would always put hay and old blankets in the dog houses. Mine were mostly mutts but seldom seemed to mind.

This is disgusting behavior. Dogs are better than people.

Our Daisy Mae is the queen of our household. She doesn’t go outside unless she requests it. She gets more Christmas presents than the kids. Sometimes on Friday nights, she lets us have her ribeye scraps :)

Right. That’s providing appropriate shelter in colder temperatures. They almost certainly had access to food and water too.

The dogs in the OP? Had no access to appropriate shelter in those temperatures because they were short-leash/chained in an open area. That’s abuse.

Pigs make fantastic pets. They are just as smart and have just as much “companionship” as dogs

I can get my pig then slaughter it and eat it for breakfast. What’s the difference? Oh yeh, “feelings”

Which is why it’s important to accurately frame and present your OP.
“Man arrested because dogs got chilly” sounds like some bullshite.

A picture of the conditions and continual mistreatment paint a different picture and some actual issues.

Just because it’s a titty bit nipply doesn’t mean someone who doesn’t bring their outside dog into their bed is a bad master.

Anyone who doesn’t let their dog sleep in their bed is abusive, imo. I sleep at the foot of our bed so Daisy Mae is comfy.

In freezing weather, without some shelter and way to warm.....agreed. what does that have to do with this thread though, it wasn't freezing at the time of arrest.

Weather is a variable that animal control considers though. When it’s X degrees (hot or cold), there’s a reasonable expectation that the animal should be able to shelter. If it’s 60 degrees out, the only variables that come into play are the access to food/water and length of the chain.

What kind of person does...

Oh. Makes sense now.

I'd have held him at gunpoint if I'd have seen the dude beating a dog relentlessly. I'm not very neighborly when it comes to asshats.

I guess it depends on the situation. When I lived in SOuth Dakota very seldom did dogs come inside. The farmers I knew would put extra hay in the barn stall for them. The difference was that these pups weren’t chained outside. If it got below like 5 degrees or so they would put them inside.

Look, I agree that the short chain is an issue, not the being outside part. However, couldn't the animal control take a moment to educate the owner instead of bringing him right to jail. I don't know if I've ever seen any kind of regulation on how much leash was required for an outside dog. Kiran's post says the dogs were malnourished, but pics said otherwise. Also, the neighbor says that he beat his dogs. Did they provide video evidence, or was it just one person's word against another? Some people define abuse to animals very differently, and spanking a dog for attacking another dog or growling at a kid is different than kicking and busting a 2x4 over it's head. I just think they could have handled the situation differently.

It quickly degenerated into an “Im not an Ahole if i leave my dog outside in the freezing cold!” Discussion .. which, in actuality- Yes, you are the biggest Ahole on the planet if you do that… Also, i will refer you to the title of this thread

“ Dogs seized outside Gonzales home as freezing weather moves in”

.. but i guess you must be “that guy” so it doesnt matter…

Idk if this local situation was cruelty or not, but when i was a kid we lived in the midwest. Temps would get 40 below. My dad had a large terrier breed that never came in the house. He had a doghouse that was built so that when he was inside it he stayed warm from his own body heat. They can be warm outside if the owner isn’t a dumbass.
