I have 3 college degrees that would qualify me for many salary jobs that would be pay cuts. These idiots I work for have no idea what they got themselves into when they switched me from salary to hourly.

We expect and encourage our salaried office workers to take a lunch break. With that said, we sort of calculate it in to their time. If a person usually arrives at 8, then he’s expected to be there until 5ish.
We’ve leased out a nice outdoor ‘rooftop’ spot on the 16th floor that they are free to use to reflect or eat their lunch in peace while not getting burnt out. Studies have shown ‘pushing thru’ isn’t always the best for productivity.

When people at that previous job would talk about how long the day felt and I would respond "yeah, a nine hour day is tough and can drag", they would always look at me like I was insane, saying that we worked an eight hour day. I would say that's technically true, but only if lunch is unpaid. I would then have them start at 8am and count out the hours to 5pm on their fingers. The look of realization was always fun
By that logic, should commute time also be considered in the calculation?

Boss makes a dollar, and I make a dime that's why I eat and shite on the company time.

…well, would that not be an 8 hour day with an hours worth of breaks? Last I checked, that was the expectation. We are paying them.

If I am being paid by the year and completing all of my tasks I do not want any one micromanaging my arse in seat time.

I would be very curious to see laid out the "logic" you employed to equate the two.

If you are going to include the unpaid time for your lunch break, when you are presumably not performing any work functions and have the ability to leave the employer premises, then why would you exclude the commute time that must be devoted to the same employer? This is time that you must take away from your personal day and devote to your employer

completing all of my tasks
Is that a salaried employee’s goal? Do you expect a promotion or to move up the ladder by simply ‘completing my tasks’? Honest question because I hear that a lot from the younger generation.
Do you want a job or career? The later doesn’t come from just simply doing your job.

People acting like hourly is bad. I have a pension,401, 6 weeks vaca and paid sick days.
Not many salary can say the same.

With what I do, I’m likely to get a phone call during the weekend or at 11pm any day of the night if someone does something stupid.
So that said, I take however long of a lunch I want, within reason. Sometimes I’m eating in my office and working, other times, I’m Alan Jackson taking the really long lunch break.

Not only do they pay me to eat lunch, but I have an expense account, so they pay for my lunch, and I’m remote, so they pay for my lunch on the golf course, lol.

I can choose to live closer or further away from my place of employment. Comparing the two is nonsensical. Further, most employers will not allow their employees to forgo lunch in return for showing up late or leaving early every day. The entire premise of the eight hour workday was "eight hours of work, eight hours of leisure, eight hours of sleep". The idea that someone would work eight hours straight with zero breaks, and if they have the audacity to take a break for any reason, that time needs to be clawed back minute by minute, is a tragically modern one.

I cant answer that question because my career was sales. No salary just commission. No one cared about hours or lunch breaks. I made a percentage of what I sold. I was motivated by competition like it was a sport. Give me a leader board...
I am now semi retired and paid by the job to work at home in my jammies. The very small time in my life I had a salaried job I was paid to supervise others. And my boss damn sure did not care whether my arse was in my seat or not. They cared if my employees did their job. Which they did because I was effective at my job without being arse in seat 40 hours.
