Not asking about right/wrong or whatever. Simply a question that came up.

It would seem they would, because it would be cheaper than paying for the health care of a child.

With this logic Insurance Companies should incentivize abortions and successful suicides?

I'm pretty sure medicaid does.

They just code it as something else that triggers coverage either way

I guess i will give the background. I was talking to a physical therepy place for my son, and there was an insurance issue about them covering it. I made a smartass comment about insurance companies being an abortion or something. The lady said she doubts insurance would even cover an abortion even though it would save them tons of money. Got me thinking

It depends on what coverage you or the company buys. Some may cover elective abortions, and others not, but I would think that nearly all cover D&Cs after woman has a miscarriage.

Well a miscariage is not an abortion

Removing a dead baby from the mother is for her health sake.

This.

Unless you've hit your deductible, then no, probably not.

Listen to the podcast by Freakenomics on the "glorious sunset insurance" that's exactly what it talks about. Basically insurance companies paying a lump sum to a terminal patient to forgo treatment an live the last remaining months to do everything that wanted to do.

Wasn't there a life insurance company that started doing that? Paying out in advance if you had a terminal diagnosis and less than 6 months to live?

I swear I remember seeing it on a commercial but I can't remember which company.
