Lucas P..Where you been.
I would imagine crazy shite goes down where you've got a bunch of killers and Rapist doing Life.They've got nothing to lose.They're used to acting like animals and I imagine when they're locked up together it gets worse.
Places you'd be sent for DUIs and non-violent stuff may not be that bad.More like Federal Prison I would think.I may be wrong.

You have it 100% backwards.
Angola is one of the calmest prisons in the country due to the fact that 90% of their inmates are on life sentences. The ones stuck for life are doing whatever they can to make their situation better, not worse. The short term guys couldn't give less of a frick about disrupting order in the system.

i worked at a prison during college. there were murderers, rapist, CMs, and every other kind of criminal. never saw or heard of any rapings going on there. only heard of one happening. this obese old white guy that was currently at this prison was sent to the medical prison and while there he stole and ate a whole box of some dudes honey buns. he got the raped for it.
for the most part, keep to yourself, dont ever ever gamble, never "borrow" anything and you will be ok

We're good still together things are pretty good. I actually followed some advice from here and made friends with the guy and things got better. It was kind of funny because I think he got mad at his girlfriend for chatting too cozily with me one night

Only pussies get abused. My brief time locked up was just boring. Don't step on anyone's toes and walk hard, meaning walk tall with a stern look on your face.
I passed the time playing cards and writing letters for the illiterates in there. It made me cool with the whites, blacks and browns in there.
The only problem I had was with a strung out meth head.

As a white guy, who isn't a pussy but still not big, I'd really love to avoid having to join up the Aryans to prevent getting raped.
I think the only potential valuable skill I have would be drumming/percussion. There's no doubt I'd have the best beats in the pen. But that still might not be enough to keep my butthole tight.

By joining them you are only assured of getting raped by smaller penises. Seems like a reasonable trade off if all it takes is a couple neck and face tats.

Your race will have a sit-down with you. They'll go over the rules. Don't break them. They'll look out for you but that doesn't mean you join. It's all image presevation or saving face. Just don't ask for any help. Ever.

I read this account written by a guy who had spent something like a year in jail for robbing a bank. It seemed pretty authentic but who knows. He made it sound like you could avoid most trouble by just not being an arse, calling anyone a bitch, owing people money, snitching, or people thinking that you abuse children in anyway. But someone might test you, and it's important that you stand up for yourself so that people know that they can't just walk all over you. Even if you get your arse beat it's better than just avoiding it. You would get more respect.
I certainly don't really know though, and I plan to never find out.
