I actually did a winter there in a consulting gig.
Aside from the cold, i thought it a pretty nice city.

Sounds about right.

Of course you need Mark Twain quotes from the 1800s to lean on for takes re: places outside 504

SMH. some major league losers down your way

In terms of overall economy and tourism, it’s pretty meh.

Yeah it’s on a lake, but outside of healthcare the job market is very narrow and it has some pretty shitty areas that rival Detroit in terms of crime statistics. The brain drain that occurs when college grads move to Chicago right after graduation is pretty bad too.

I’d still visit Cleveland over Columbus any day of the week though.

Half of these MF’s live in Louisiana/Mississippi and suffer the gall/delusion to think they’re better situated than those in some of these underrated rust belt markets. They’ve traveled very little and think South Louisiana is as good as it gets.

That’s the key. One poster earlier compared it to New Orleans, but with crappier winters. No. Just no. The NO crime has encroached places where tourists frequent. If you aren’t looking for trouble in Cleveland, you won’t find it.

Very underrated food scene like you mentioned.

Cleveland is actually a pretty cool place these days. Downtown is super active and well-cared for. Lots of big companies still in the area doing a lot for the city. Very devoted sports fans, even if they aren’t always having a good year (or a good century). They have one of the top 5 art museums in the country, as well as a top 5 symphony orchestra. Largest theatre district outside of New York. Great food for a midwestern city. Cleveland Metroparks maintain some of the best and most expansive urban parks in the nation. I was very surprised at how much was going on there.
