Karen Carpenter was awesome as you noted. As for power, I always thought Amy Lee was up there pretty good too.

I'll get flamed, but from a singing perspective, Lady Gaga. Shes fricking crazy and isn't going to ever be the cultural icon the Whitney is, but Gaga is going to go down as the greatest female voice of our age.
