I would say I'm much more prideful in being from the state of Louisiana than being from the "south".
this is how i feel too...
i know LA gets a lot of shite because of the corruption in politics, educational system, lack of infrastructure, etc., but the US couldn't run without LA... the O & G sector and the port of NOLA are vital to the country's health...

Yea cause Louisiana and Mississippi aren't the dumbest and poorest states in the nation. Such a retarded statement.

At least your not being called a racist.
I think being slow to progress and resistant to change and equality are paramount to the southern experience. It's embedded in our roots.

They have a low opinion of us. I have more of a northern dislike than southern pride.

I was born in Beaumont to parents who were born and raised in NOLA and moved back when I was tiny and grew up right outside of NOLA. I'm from the South and specifically am a Louisianian.
But I'm a late 20th Century/21sy Century Southerner.
I have nothing in common with people who lived in this area 150 years ago other than sharing geography. Even if I could trace my family back through that time as living here (I can't...my family largely immigrated to the US right around the time of the Civil War from Germany) I still would not feel connected to them any more so than I feel connected to my great great grandparents to whom I had no connection at all. Other than knowing their names, I have no idea what they were like, who they were, etc.
So no...there is no reason at all that I ought to have some connection to a place and specifically a time in which I did not live. I think the vast majority of grousing done about this is manufactured angst. We live as much WHEN we live as WHERE...and we live in the 21st Century. Time to start acting like it.
Now...I love where I live. Like most of us here I could have at one point or another chose to live elsewhere and yet I stayed put. Doesn't mean I love EVERYTHING about it or that I would not like it to change for the better...but I do love it.

Yeah, yeah big bad Obama is taking yer battle flags and guns and you're not going to stand for it but seriously... do you really feel some sort of pride as a "Southerner"?
So here is where the problem with your argument and the people who are going ape shite over this:
YOU might not give a shite but plenty of people do so what make YOU right and them wrong? People with your mindset tend to think only IF you agree with their narrative are you able to have those thoughts but if you don't you are labeled by the many labels they have out nowadays.
Also,
I could argue that since you have LOUISIANA Pride that is stupid as well. I could say the same as you!(I live in Baton Rouge so I could give a frick about someone living in Lafayette). Anytime you label a group and put them in a box that box could change depending on the conversation. Ex. If you are discussing national pride would you say the same thing? No you would say: I could give a frick about someone in France! Now you are in the same box with the person you grouped yourself out of in your original argument.
If everyone would stop trying to force their beliefs of what is offensive on everyone else this country would be a lot better.
Why not say: "I could give a frick about somebody flying the Rebel flag"? That is their right even as stupid as I think it is.

They should have written it down for their descendants like my family did.
Knowing just some of their struggles & motivations creates a sense of connection with your ancestors and the places you jointly have been to.
Gives you family & southern pride.

Is it an us against them kind of thing because a lot of Northerners take shots at Southerners?
Isn't every damned thing in this country painted as "us against them" (in some way or another) these days?

Actually, as of 2014 West Virginia, Alabama, New Mexico and Idaho all ranked poorer than Louisiana all of which ranked behind Mississippi.
All while West Virginia and Arkansas ranked the least educated behind Mississippi.
So it seems like you're correct. Louisiana isn't the dumbest or poorest state in the nation, or even second to dumbest or poorest.

This is true. Holding doors open, saying "sir" and "ma'am", smiling and greeting everyone you meet.
That is looked at as strange in much of the North and other areas.
