Yeah, yeah big bad Obama is taking yer battle flags and guns and you're not going to stand for it but seriously... do you really feel some sort of pride as a "Southerner"?

I mean, I take pride in my heritage as a Cajun and tracing my family lineage is pretty cool but I couldn't give less of a frick about Mississippi.

Is it an us against them kind of thing because a lot of Northerners take shots at Southerners?

I mean I get it, I've spent time in the Northeast, a lot of those people are assholes but so are a lot of the judgmental arse Southern Baptists, they just justify it with the Old Testament.

I'm not even trying to troll, I'm genuinely curious about the whole Southern heritage thing that seems to be blowing up right now. Is it more of a retaliation to the anti-Confederate battle flag or is it legitimate pride in the South?

Thanks and God bless

Flying back into New Orleans made me realize how much I wanted to move to Finland.

I guess I started this thread too late. Hopefully I'll wake up to people threatening to fight me or something.

I would say I'm much more prideful in being from the state of Louisiana than being from the "south".

I could give two shits where I was born....be that the north or the south. I'm am who I've made myself and have pride in my family and how I was raised, not something I have zero control over that happened by chance.

The only people I know who talk about where they're from all the time (city or state) like they have a sense of pride about something that happened by chance are rappers, trashy people, and inmates in a prison.

I love Louisiana but there's nowhere else in the "South" that I've spent significant time in that I would really want to live for the rest of my life.

You don't see anyone retire and move north do ya? The south is the best. Plain and simple. At everything. Food. Sports. Women. Everything.

I like being a southerner. I think there's a way of life here that the rest of the country doesn't get. Maybe I just like living in south LA.

It's much more pleasant to slip off into death when it's not cold for 8 months out of the year.

Well, the South is constantly, and often untruthfully, shite on by the North.

Scruffy believes it has become a defensive response more than anything.

Let's not act like South Louisiana isn't fricking miserable in the summer. We've all just been beaten down by humidity for so long that we've just learned to accept it as a part of life.

Am I a racist redneck who thinks white people are better than everyone else? HELL no

Do I take pride in being from the South? Yes.

Unfortunately you have dipshits who automatically call you a bigot for "being proud" of being from the South. Those people are what's wrong with this country, not a fricking flag.

I've traveled all across this country and around the world. But the South still has the nicest people I've ever been around.

There's definitely an elitism problem with much of the Northeast portion of the United States. I definitely can see it as a defensive response. But there's a lot of really cool places outside of the South where the people are awesome as well.
