We went with Compuserv after our account at AOL got canned
SYSOP booted my brother and I.

I used to be big into the warez on AOL chats. Used those Pepsi and MiB programs to fish for account passwords and whatnot.
you remember FateX or AOHELL? You could create fake accounts with a "secret" cc-prefix
Mass mails, proggies, the good ole days.

I was just thinking about how much I miss this layout of the internet.
I was in 4th grade when we first got it, and I remember the excitement of hearing the opening door sound whenever one of my 3 friends with AOL would sign on.
Anyone else have Netscape Navigator before AOL? Still better than Internet Explorer.
:nostalgia:

The knock at the hotel door. I look through the peep hole and there is this knock out chick standing there. I open the door and we kiss for about 20 min and spend the weekend in the room.
She had told her parents that she was going to Atlanta for the weekend with some of her friends. So on Sunday morning she wants me to go meet her parents. I would have said hell no if I had known what their reaction was going to be.
We get to her parents house and walk in and they are like who is this motherfricker? She explains that we met online and we had spent the weekend together. They go ape shite crazy and want phone numbers for my family members because they want to know who I am and blah blah blah. It was the last time I saw her.

I got big into chatting in this site. Chatterbox Place is still there but it's pretty much a wasteland now.

Does anyone miss the (mostly) anonymous Chat Rooms back in the 90's
Sorry TD, I miss the days when the internet did not exist.

I would join the french chatrooms to practice my french.

IRC was the shiz
I spent WAY too much of my time in chat rooms as a kid. There was a period of about 10 minutes in the 90's where chat rooms were considered cool and you weren't lame if you were online all day.

all I remember was going on the AOL chatrooms and pretending to be my brother, who was in college, and using his pic to send to chicks and whatnot and actually getting some chick to send me pics of her in her underwear
it was the greatest thing ever when I was 12
I sent that shite to all my friends
I was a god
amazing how that wouldn't be a big deal these days

AOL was the best, loved the anonymous specific high school chat rooms

I was a child in those days. 11 years old when I first discovered chat rooms and was on them all day long. I made a few legit-confirmed-not-a-pedophile-but-maybe-you-never-know pen pals, which freaked my parents out because the media was all about "internet = AOL = rape subscription." Someone in this thread mentioned that pedophiles might miss the chat rooms for easy prey, but I think the current state of social media and methods of anonymity have created an even more urgent need for concern over predators.
I mostly had free reign of the internet as a kid, and so much of it was wasted in IRC, Yahoo, and AOL chatrooms.

i was kind of a big deal in the yahoo checkers rooms. back then nobody had pics; guys were measured by how cool your profile info was and how funny you were in the chat room. girls were measured by how sexy their screen names were. i e-dated this bitch sylkyfyne for a while. we were the checkers social lounge power couple for the summer of '95. when bae felt like getting down, which let me tell you was pretty often, you'd make a private room that normally you'd play checkers in, but it had a chat window too. everyone in the main room could see who was in a room together, so you'd know what the frick was up when we were in there.

No was too chaotic and too short term. Too easy to spam with multiple Ids. I like the happy medium of sites like TD.
