Hence why I said that the crime and murder rate are high for a city it's size. They are still down from the peak which was around 2006.

I also posted that just about every major city has areas that could be mistaken for Fallujah. Chicago isn't the exception just because it "has roads" and Chicago's crime rates speak for themselves.

Again, what I posted is accurate and nothing you are saying is disputing that.

I guess it depends on how you want to define it but a mass shooting to me is what happened in Aurora. A batshit crazy person shoots random innocent people for no reason.

yes exactly. i think there is a definition that covers this, but it doesn't show the dramatic increase the media wants to push (if any at all). they've stretched the definition to become so big that it includes gang/street shootings where 2+ people get hurt

538 article

quote:

The shooting that killed at least 14 people at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday is the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. this year but far from the first. It wasn’t even the first to occur on Wednesday. A shooting early in the morning in Savannah, Georgia, killed one person and injured three others.

yup. one was a clear, targeted act of terrorism and one was a street killing where, sadly, multiple people were injured. these 2 scenarios are so close they should OBVIOUSLY be included in the same data set

the article does note this, but it's still a tough cookie

the media also likely plays the biggest role in the proliferation of non-terrorist mass shootings. that's why i always ask for more regulations on how the media reports these stories. we cannot allow this unfettered, dangerous journalism to continue to put american lives at risk

Chicago is down from its peak in the 90s, so I'm not sure how that's relevant, especially when NO's rates are still significantly higher.

I really don't get why Chicago gets the "third wold country" label when NO's infrastructure is infinitely worse & has much higher crime rates. Explain that.

Chicago's crime rates have been rising the past 18+ months though.

I never even disputed this and stated it in my original post. Not sure why you keep on posting the same thing thinking I am disagreeing with you.

It's like you are purposely being obtuse.

My previous posts on "3rd world countries"

quote:

Everyone knows certain areas in and around St Louis, Chicago, Detroit, etc are all shitholes that might as well be in the middle of Afghanistan. Those areas also have some of the highest welfare and unemployment rates per capita in the USA.

Sorry if you failed to realize the etc didn't exclude NOLA. Do you need to get someone to read these to you aloud maybe?

You don't get it. New Orleans is closer to being 3rd world in every possible way. The first post I replied to clearly indicates you think differently.

No. I never said I didn't think NOLA wasn't a 3rd world country. I just stated that crime is down from it's peak but it still had very high crime for a city it's size.

Again, I said:

Where did that exclude NOLA? Did I need to list every major city? I figured the "etc" would cover that portion but apparently not.

words mean things.

And being able to comprehend them and figure out context is apparently a skill that escapes you.

Nice strategy. When you have been shown to lack basic understanding, make fun of the person schooling you in an effort to discredit them as if they are beneath you.

FWIW, I haven't even cut my own grass in a long time. Do I have grass cut crews? Yep because the banks pay me well to have them. I also have roofing crews, remodeling crews, ETC. I know that ETC word gives you problems, though.

Also, I have those crews in a lot of the cities mentioned in this thread and see first hand the blight in the poorer neighborhoods. The banks have to pay for contractors to hire security in some parts of Chicago just to go complete their work.

So there was an obvious downtrend that the obama administration managed to reverse by promoting the environment that breeds the Ferguson effect.

Those numbers are totally bogus. The problem is police departments aren't reporting crimes like they used to because it's all about the stats for them, lower crime means more promotions. Showing lower crime also gets all of the politicians reelected so they pressure the cops. It's a total joke.
