re: Does anyone have the story on these ‘Ain’t there no more’ Hammond bars?

Cell phones and social media likely killed most college bars. Being in college from 18-20 and having fun at a bar is a right of passage, but now everything is captured. Too much liability and evidence lying around to be a bar owner if something happens, or even if it doesn’t but someone is on a crusade against college kids having fun like LSU has been with fraternities.

Extra innings and Texas club had to be the two places with the most physical altercations in all of Louisiana.
Bars/Nightclubs on the Westbank have entered the conversation.

I think the cops got strict after that drunk driver ran over those kids walking home from Extra Innings. I think that killed the bar scenes.

Library and Magic Daiquiri were open at the same time in that little strip. Would start at the Library and then go get two for one Zombie Daiquiris on Tuesday and Thursday, one for the walk back to the dorm and the other to clear my head on the walk to class the next morning.
Library would do a Break the Bladder promotion where $5 cover and free beer till someone went to the bathroom. I would hate to know how much piss was on the underside of that bar.
I also drank around the world a couple of times at Philias Fogg's.

Juniors bouncers would beat the crap out of both guys in a fight to make a point. That place was the Double Deuce.
Yeah, those bouncers didn't have the right temperament for the trade. You need to be nice until its time not to be nice.

Double Deuce.
Spent quite a few underage nights at that place.
Watched them put a fat chick in the bed of a truck passed out. Was freaking hilarious.

Tuesday- Atlas

Friday- little side bar of Astercks or Club Brady’s
Saturday- The Crescent
Your Mom’s after Atlas and Asterisks closed
2010-2014 GOAT years.
I was there from 2011 to 2013. Atlas on (I think) on some Wednesdays had all you could drink well whiskey for $5 at the door. I don't remember how long that lasted. Looking back on it that tells you how cheap that shite actually was. Man we did some stupid things.
Tuesday's Don's had .45 raw oysters we would do a lot.
Thursdays were Brady's then Cate St. Pub. The Brown Door was for the frat douches. I didn't start going to the crescent or Bennie's until after I graduated.
Chevy's was gone by the time I got to school there, (I think it changed to Asterisks or the Buzz, I didn't do either) but did use a fake ID to go to a 12 stones concert at Chevy's when I was in high school about 2007.

What about the Brown Door?
Went there for the first time mid-90s and was blown away by how much of a time warp to the 1960s it was. Only went a handful of times but always liked it.

That was the old Hammond Social Club...
Pretty cool place...
Is Mariners still open? Basically Hammonds version of Port O Calls..
Good burgers.
My Freshman year at SLU, fall of '82, there was a dance club across campus on Columbus called Faces, competed with Juniors, it was a blast... Closed the next spring.
Little Hammond trivia: The first New Orleans Original Daguiris opened on Highway 51 just off the I-55 exit in 1983. It was basically a trailer, with a deck built around it until it moved to West Thomas right near Lee's Hamburgers.

The previous name of the club was La Krieks or something like that.
I remember seeing the Cold there in 80 or 81 and the crowd was pogo dancing and that rickety assed floor was moving.
I can't believe the floor didn't collapse that night.
I wonder how many drunks fell down those steep assed stairs?

Didn't he partner with Sal Durante with this one?

Was in a truck with 4 guys on the way back to BR from getting hammered. State trooper pulled us over on interstate. Driver was barely able to stand still. He went around truck and asked anyone if the could drive. Everyone said no. He said “frick it” gave us the keys back and left
