I guess everyone has their own idea of great places to retire. Anywhere near New Orleans isn’t mine. Love visiting the city and all though.

Agreed to an extent in my opinion, I can't remember traffic being as bad as it is now back before Katrina. It feels like we gained a massive amount of people after that storm and no one ever really moved away. lol this can all be in my head though

Baton Rouge is nothing but a map on Call of Duty.

I live just off of college and I’ve never had any problems. There are multiple shortcuts to bypass the college/Perkins intersection from any direction you happen to be coming from.

Just fire up Waze, and follow the directions to your destination.

You need to read the Southeast Advocate this morning.

Since the census in 2010, there are 18,284 fewer people in EBR Parish

One reason given was the floods, but over the same period of time Ascension and Livingston gained 24,474 people.

EBR has big problems and the leadership here is ignoring them.

I enjoyed growing up in the SE corner of EBR. It was rural, but had everything I needed. LSU was a fun place to go to school, but then I graduated. In the early 80’s things were pretty dismal. Most of my friends went to Houston. Buddy Roemer even said in his commencement address that he knew we would leave for better jobs, but hoped we’d come back! Fast forward past grad school in NC and jobs in Texas, SC, N.O., I am now in Atlanta. My friends who stayed in BR live off Highland Road and pay for private school and have money to travel. They like BR. What I found hard to take was visiting my parents in Shenandoah. The drive from the airport down Airline Hwy and the ugliness on Jones Creek Road made an impression on me. So many places look run down. Maybe it’s hard to see it happening when you are around it every day.

I wonder how they determine that number without a new census? I also wonder how many new undocumented people came here to work after the flood and never left.

Damn good job in Plaquemine acquired after buying home in Walker. Housing market around me is flooded and we tried to sell but got little interest. Decided to fix house up and stay longer to increase equity. I'm used to the drive. In all honesty it really doesn't bother me that much. But if it got better I wouldn't complain lol

I'd prefer this over the current leadership.

Traffic & Litter are my two biggest issues with BR. People don't take pride in where they live and it's infuriating.

I actually really loved living in Baton Rouge. Living in the suburbs and commuting to Baton Rouge for work is a f&%king nightmare, though.

I'm not saying this city is perfect, far from it, but if one lives relatively close to where they work and can afford to send their kids to private schools near where they live, the quality of life in Baton Rouge is pretty nice, tbh.

I really enjoyed living in Mid City and the Garden District.

Had some relatives who flew into the airport here and rented a car. They told me they got on the Interstate at Harding and the first thing they noticed were a mattress and a bag of crawfish heads on the side of the highway. Too much litter /trash here.

BR is not a great place but it’s not terrible either. It’s what you make of it.
