Yea i very rarely get stuck in traffic, you gotta know your routes. It pretty much only affects people that live in the east or west suburbs. And honestly, traffic is one of the cons you sign up for when you decide to move out to any suburb.

I've lived in EBR all my life and I like it here. It's home, I am a Tiger and I know what to expect.
Four things that have really hurt the parish.
The layout and engineering of the I 10, 12 and 110 was terrible. Planners messed up the city and effectively damned the city and left a few weep holes for traffic to use to go north and south from Airline to Acdian. Then with the 10/12 split in the middle of SBR and the bridge and the 10/110 split bisecting Downtown it compounded the problem. These problems can not be overcome.
The failure to vote for Woody Dumas' grid plan for streets south of Florida back around 1970 left NBR with. Nice grid and SBR with crap. NBR tax passed SBR did not.
The school debacle with the local school board thumbing their nose at the Feds and Judge Parker responding with an iron hand. Forced budding killed off much of the support for the EBRSS.
Then the federal mandate to fix our sewer system left us with a 600-700 million dollar problem, but not only did we tax ourselves to comply; Kip decided to go way beyond complying and we are spending way over a billion dollars to repair and upgrade the sewer system parish wide. Fees increase yearly robbing folks of more and more of their money without any justification.

I wouldn't say that I hate living in BR, but sadly, it has changed for the worse (when compared to how it was in 1992 when i moved here). Back in 1992, I was proud of living in BR.
The downfall began from Katrina. The trash totally fricked BR up beginning in 2006.
Today, it is very trashy and racially divided.
The racially divided part I blame on:
EBT card holders
Parish Council
Section 8
"I'm a victim" losers
Typical stunts pulled by the COA
Do you see the pattern in this list??

It will help, but won't fix the traffic problems. There's too many issues for one fix to work.

I don’t hate living in BR. I understand that there are problems primarily it’s in the administration and city government. But, I love my neighborhood where there are really great neighbors who are friendly and helpful. I love my church. I like my job and co-workers. I love being able to go to any LSU sporting event on any night of the week. I like that I can be on a good beach in 4 hours or head to Houston for a weekend. I enjoy the parks and running on the levee. I think the food is good for a city this size. I am good here for now. I am starting to think about retirement and will probably look for a smaller town but it’s a good place for now. I’ve lived in Dallas and loved it there, too. Life is what you make of it. You can be happy wherever you are if you choose to be.

I was born in Baton Rouge 51 years ago. My parents raised us in Sherwood Forest. Seemed like a fun time in the 1980’s. We all loved Cortana Mall, Skate City, and Don Carters and LSU.
I thought living in Houston was exciting during my college years but last November it took me 70 minutes to drive 24 miles ( Galleria area to Humble, Texas). Traffic there is worse than Baton Rouge.
I live in ascension parish now and I enjoy my job in Kenner. I think I will be buried in Gonzales next to my parents. Every city has pros and cons. My heart still lies in Louisiana.

Without LSU and being the capital, Baton Rouge would be Alexandria.

Ellick has scenic hills and pine trees. Baton Rouge would be more like Ville Platte.

This is true. Out of all the cities, if we’re talking just scenic and geography then Alexandria is probably the best. Too bad it never became more than it is.
Br would be like Ville platte combined with opelousas

My family has been in the BR area for 265 years, my son made the 10th generation in my male line born here. Home is home, has everything I need.

Love to visit BR to see family and friends, love going to NOLA for a night, could not imagine living there. It has no long term appeal. Baton Rouge outside fam, friends, and LSU is pretty much a shithole.

i grew up in west monroe, but i got here as quick as i could. i've been here 41 years and i still like it, but it changed after Katrina.
i think what's happening in Mid-City will give it some actual personality for the first time.
