I probably should for a modest amount like that.
Don't use it much but I've used it a little (and also trolled/vandalized it).

I haven't but I have contributed my time, research and money elsewhere to edit and source articles for them

I donate once a year as well. When all they ask for is less than 5 bucks, why wouldnt I? Id be very interested to know what it costs a year to run the site. Id imagine it takes a bit.
As far as what their family and friends have recommended, I dont blame him for doing his thing. A good business owner always keeps business decisions separate from family and friends. You dont even give them discounts on anything.
