It doesn't work on all lights, but it definitely works on some.
You ever thought that maybe those rare times that it actually does work, the light is actually just ready to turn green?
I know it's hard to believe, but yes the lights turn green on their own.

Lmao, is this thread serious? They have lights that are "smart" lights and recognize when a car is waiting, but that is it. You're a fool if you believe otherwise.

There are weight sensors that can trigger lights but flashing? Come the frick on.

Those aren't weight sensors, there is a wire that runs under the road that has a current running through it. And the iron in your car effects the electromagnetic field surrounding that wire, and that is how it detects a waiting vehicle.

No they don't, something always triggers a light to turn, whether it be a sensor or a timer. Usually a sensor.

Yeah I do that shite.
How do ambulances change the lights. At newer signals in Baton Rouge they'll all change to red for how ever long as the ambulance is driving through and then re-cycle after it passes.

so a light turning green from a timer, is not the same as it turning green on it's own?
I didn't mean it has a mind of it's own and decides to turn green at it's own discretion. It turns green because it is time to turn green, not because you flashed your lights at it.

It's a signal usually coupled with the emergency lights on the vehicle. Some stop lights are equipped to respond to that signal and those are the ones you see changing when the emergency vehicle approaches.

Which is where the myth (or truth ) of flashing your lights at the signal comes from.

this is correct. if you see a bunch of cuts in the asphalt then they are on a loop (inductive loop to be exact). It basically is a magnetic field that senses disturbances in the loop and tell it when a vehicle is there. If you have a truck that has a lot of lift, tough shite because you might not trip the loop.
Flashing your brights at a red light will never work though. Some traffic lights have a strobe sensor for emergency vehicles but to trigger that you would have to flash your brights like 15 to 20 times a second for a couple seconds which I doubt you could do.

Found this out when I went on a job interview at Stantec.

I have never seen an ambulance with one but I know some fire units, although not all, have them. When they are running code, with lights and siren, the sensor changes lights to green for them

Sirens automatically open the gates at The Cottages. True story.
So if it's 4am and you can't get in the gate, just call the police. Works every time.
