DoD Secretary opens all military jobs to women

Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter said Thursday that he is opening all jobs in in combat units to women, a landmark decision that ends a three-year period of research with a number of firsts for female service members and bitter debate at times about how women should be integrated.
The decision opens the military’s most elite units to women who can meet the rigorous requirements for the positions for the first time, including the Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces and other Special Operations Units. It also opens the Marine Corps infantry, a battle-hardened force that many service officials had openly advocated keeping closed to female service members.
quote:
“There will be no exceptions,” Carter said. “This means that, as long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before.”
quote:
Carter said that the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force all recommended that all jobs be opened to women. The Marine Corps recommended that certain jobs such as machine gunner be kept closed, but the secretary said that the military is a joint force, and his decision will apply to all services.
The issue has at times opened an uncommonly public rift between senior military leaders. In particular, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus took issue with a Marine Corps study that found that the average woman struggled to keep up with men, according to a number of metrics. The study did not track individual performance, drawing fire from Mabus and others in favor of full integration

Dumb but not surprising.

I might be OK with this as long as they don't lower the standards

Looks like I'm going to have to fight ISIS myself.

Which standards? The one for men or women?

Lots of women will be getting taken hostage and raped by Muslims now.
I hope Ashton can deal with that.

I would be fine with it like a previous poster said IF the standards were the same. That being said they aren't and they won't be in the future. Still pisses me off how much more I have to do on my PT tests to score the same as them.

You obviously have never met a female Marine... They can be be just as hardcore as their male counterparts.
If they can do the job without special accommodations/standards then by all means go for it shipmate

No possible since few to no women could meet much of the current standards for the elite military programs.

Since we are going this direction, everyone should have to join the selective service. You can't single out young males.

This administration has been one giant liberal "change for the sake of change" nightmare.
I've never once been surprised by their ability to place pragmatism over political correctness.
Him greenlighting killing OBL (which he had no choice on) is his only accomplishment I'm on board with.

Don't forget the whole purpose of this was to make a more "diverse" fighting force. The point is that Carter is trying to insert women in combat roles for non-combat reasons. It's not about their performance, its about them being included. This will not end well.

This. I would love to see the reactions on SJW's faces if that comes down. It won't of course, because they will say its not fair somehow.

Had one attached to our unit named Martinez. Bitch was hot as frick from the neck up.
I think somebody banged her once. But he was drunk.
