Doctors of the OT question.

I am looking for some information pertaining to something I am going though in my life. My question is if someone goes in for a biopsy... how long does this scan last? Is it like a normal doctor visit and they check you out in a hour or so or is it a long process?
Very long story and did not want to type out everything out but I have been dating this girl( no pics sorry) and times during our relationship I have felt like I have been lied to alot and I have not understood alot of different things. Thank you for your help.
I will explain a little more. A couple of months ago I get a call from her saying that she is in the emergency room about a lot of pain. She stays in the hospital for a few days and they find a mass. Her sister flies in from out of town to be with her. The doctors schedule a biopsy a couple of days later and her and her sister ask if I can be there with them. So that day I leave work to meet them at the hospital for the scheduled appointment and she calls me and says that they are running late and she called the doctor and said that the pushed the time back later in the day. I said I have to go back to work and to just call me and tell me what they say. Well they get to the hospital later and have the biopsy so I am told and it took all of an hour at the most. They tell her that she has stage 3 cancer.

Not a doctor but I'm pretty sure a biopsy is a surgical procedure where they remove something and look at it under a microscope. I'd think a brain biopsy would take longer than a skin biopsy though

Time to move on man. She’s cheating on you.

This is correct. I have experience with both. Skin biopsy is fairly quick. Brain biopsy is much longer.

I had a biopsy and was in the hospital for 9 hours.
Depends upon what type of biopsy.

Not a doctor- but- you're saying she was diagnosed on-site during the same appt. as the biopsy?
sounds fishy to me

This is possible
A biopsy can be done in a drs office with no sedation
These are typically sent to a lab & results are returned within a week
My Grandma had a biopsy done at an outpatient surgery center & by the time she was out of recovery they had the results of lymphoma
What type of cancer is she saying it is?

It could take a while. The biopsy goes to a Pathologist. It takes time for a Path to examine it. Most always, they do special staining etc on the specimen. The time taken isn't really a valid question to be asking. And of course, the Pathologist does it when he does it at his choosing. There are situations where a patient is waiting on the surgery table waiting for the Path to tell the docs whether they "they got it all", but those are not common. That is when you see the Path "hurry".

Yes, that was the phone call I got and was told. It seemed that was pretty quick of a result is the reason I was asking .

I had one when I was getting diagnosed with cirrhosis a couple of years ago. I think I was at the hospital about 3-4 hours. The procedure itself might last about 45 minutes. The rest of the time is check-in and then they watch you a little while before discharge. Oh, and the hospital rescheduling shite like this is common.

This may be a dumb question, but can they even determine the stage from a biopsy? I thought stage 3 meant it’s spread to surrounding areas. The biopsy could tell you if you have cancer, but wouldn’t they have to do other imaging to determine spread?

Your story is weird.
How long have y’all been dating?
If you’re skeptical of the procedure, what do you think her end game is?
1) She is a scam artist and is about to swindle you for money.
2) She has a mental illness where she gets off on being cared for by others as if she has a fatal illness.
