Yes, Jimmy Carter is very smart, probably a genius. Along with all those smarts,he was also given a very good soul, and a very trusting outlook on people.

I think the latter trait, tended to get in the way of the former.

He is a hell of a good guy,too good to be a president IMO. He was a terrible president, but I damn sure like him.

This is accurate. It is well known among historians that Japan would be speaking Russian today if we had not dropped the bombs. We saved Japan from Russia. Russia was set to invade, and our forces were no where near ready. We were 2 to 6 months away.

Russia set to invade the home islands of Japan?!? With what?? They had a force ready to go into northern China and they did exactly that. But invade Japan? How the hell were they going to get a invasion force there? Make them swim?

The Soviets were nowhere near capable of launching an invasion of the Home Islands. They had plenty of men, tanks, and artillery. But they totally lacked the ships and landing craft to get them ashore in Japan.

Maybe you can point out where Obama did this for me.

IMHO opinion, any apologizing for things that happened before we were born, undermines the perception of our resolve as a people. That we would let the past, soften our actions in the future.

If he wanted to say all of the things he did, that is fine, but he should have closed with " Don't make us do it again" and drop the mic.

This.

Did not have the capabilities or the experience. A non-existent threat.

I still want to know how he thinks the Soviets would overcome this little obstacle to invading Japan....

Don't be ridiculous. What choices of state does a child make? No one chooses to be born or where they are born.

And none of us chose to be born here. So maybe the president I didn't chose should stop making choices for me.

The Ruskies definitely hated the Japs though,if The U.S. had provided them with the equipment to invade Japan, they probably would have taken care of business in short order, then proceeded to take over the entire Pacific.

Where's the apology to my grandfathers that were sent as teenagers to Japan?

But we'd have never given them anything to help them land on the home islands.

First, we did not want them there because of what we'd already seen them do in Eastern Europe.

Second, we didn't have the ships to spare. Remember that we had our own invasion planned and it was on a scale that dwarfed anything that came before. Forget Normandy, Phillipines, or Okinawa. The invasion of Japan would have been the biggest seaborne invasion in history by far. And we needed every boat we had to pull it off.

Obviously our great uncles and Grandfathers were chomping at the bit to go and do all this stuff.

We were a misguided country back then, but we have obviously seen the light now...one love..one heart.lets get together and feel alright...

I love me some Bob Marley!

I think there was a school of thought back then, that wanted to just provide the Russians with the equipment, and let them do it for us.So we could focus on Europe.

Thank God,some guys thought it all through.

We wanted their help trying down Japanese forces in Manchuria but that's it. We were never going to allow them onto the home islands of Japan.

If Obama had even one patriotic, freedom loving cell in his body, he should have confronted them about how they treated our POW's.

Fact remains that I am sure all powers Japan, Germany, and USA were all furiously working on a bomb. Imagine Germany having one first. Wouldn't be anything pretty to see in Europe anymore older than 1944.

The Japanese actually backed a different horse, biological agents. And they had some very potent bugs indeed, but they lacked a reliable delivery system to attack the US. They did use them against the Chinese (and experimented on the Chinese population) and killed a shite load of people doing so.

They even attempted to use biological warfare against American troops on the battlefield though they weren't successful (submarine carrying it was sunk, gliders carrying it crashed into the ocean).

Fortunately after the war the US punished those in Unit 731, the group that developed the weapons and experimented on the Chinese (and Koreans, Mongolians, and some Allied POWs) including women, children, and unborn babies, by... not prosecuting them and using their research material to enhance our own knowledge of biological warfare.

Not one of our shining moments of glory.

Regardless the total people killed in the two atomic bombs, weapons of mass destruction, is most certainly lower and probably quite a bit lower, then the number of Chinese killed by Japan using biological agents... a weapon of mass destruction.

Japan opened the Pandora's Box of WMDs well before the US did. They cannot complain of the consequences.

Was it evil to attack pearl harbor and kill 2000 people unprovoked
Was it evil to rape 100,000 women while conquering china.
Was the bataan death march evil.
Was it evil to fight to the death causing hundreds of thousands of deaths on both sides even after you knew the war was lost.
Etc. etc ....
The japs at that time had no regard for human life, including their oun citizens.

IF THE ATOMIC BOMBS SAVED only ONE AmERICAN LIFE IT WAS WORTH IT ! And justified !

Oh yea. frick barry obama

I don't think it was evil, but you're fooling yourself if you think the US hasn't done some really fricked up stuff.
