Do you spend more dining out or on groceries?

Americans’ spending at restaurants surpassed their spending at grocery stores for the first time ever:
At the same time, a recent survey showed that “Among those [making $75,000 or more] who are not saving as much as they believe they should because of spending on lifestyle purchases, 68 percent blamed dining out as the main reason. Among millennials (ages 18-34), 70 percent blamed dining out."
Its interesting to me, as I looked at my family's spending, we have crept up from 75:25 groceries:dining out to very close to 50:50.

Groceries at my house probably about 70:30
I do eat out for lunch every day but I get to put that on company credit card so it's not figured into my ratio

You are one of my favorite posters - maybe I ought to strive to be more like you.
Our deal is "convenience," but my wife and I both agree that its not always the case. Tonight, for instance, we will go to a high school football game and we will either eat at the game or grab something en route. There's no reason we couldn't grab a quick bite at home, but it has become habit.
And I live in Madison, MS - not the mecca of good restaurants. We're going to try to cut back eating out to just necessity.

I wound up eating out on several occasions this summer and it amazes me how quickly those restaurant bills add up. I have never understood how college students are able to do that on a regular basis.
I've always been pretty frugal when it comes to grocery shopping so it doesn't take much to exceed my usual dietary expenses.

I spend about $25 a week on groceries. Mostly on a loaf of bread, cold cuts, Cokes, and chips.
I spend about $200 a week eating out and on beer/booze at bars and restaurants.

We eat in most of the time. We might eat out once a week for dinner, but not every week. I try and make my own lunches too. Eating lunch out everyday will kill your wallet and gut. I treat myself to lunches out on Fridays.

It depends a lot on where you live, I'd probably cut out dining all together if I lived in a place like Baton Rouge

Worst of both for us. We eat out about 4-5 nights a week. For the other 2-3, we overpay for groceries because a) we buy too much and b) we need stuff for specific recipes and don't cook enough to have things on hand.

We were guilty of this several years ago. Also the almost daily trips to the grocery where you bought unnecessary itmes. Now we have a pretty tight budget. We shop monthly at Costco and just weekly for produce at Rouse's. We make menus for four-five weeks at a time. We budget to have one "go big" night out every month.
