They say it cuts down on insurance and makes sure you don't pay them for their service if needed.

Just curious.

they just built a new fire station down the street from my house and now I get to pay a monthly fee which is included on my water/sewage and trash bill from the city every month. It didn't drop my homeowners insurance enough to cover the difference I pay every year.

As much money as every government entity throws away, I'd be pissed if I had to be a fire department membership fee, or worse, had to pay to have the fire department come to my house.

If you mean taxes, yes.

If you don't mean taxes, no.

Let me take a pic of it this afternoon so this will make more sense.

I see what you're getting at.

How much is it? I think that's one that I would definitely pay. Whether I agree with how they've worked out their finances, I want them to be funded and I want them to show up when I need them.

He's talking about membership fees to a volunteer fire department, not a "real" fire department in which case there are no fees. It's a rural thing, and yes I pay mine, and around here if you don't , they'll still come to your home if there is a fire of course, but they will give you a bill. If you're a member, you're good.

It doesn't save enough on my home insurance to make a difference either way though.

I thought fire dept service charge was relatively common. Homeowner insurance will generally pay it for you as part of the claim

Make sure you pay it, or this may happen to you.

I believe it is a standard, annual tax in California (~ $120.00) paid to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

If they want money they should strip down and take some racy photos of themselves like a self respecting fireman.

My gift is not running over them when they're standing in the middle of the road at an intersection collecting donations.

I was a very active member of our local V.F.D.

I know first hand how much it takes to run a V.F.D.

I know where their money is spent.

I donate to them.

Probably more than I save on my premium.

Well worth it. It keeps E.M.S. going.

E.T.A., They have had to come to my house for medical purposes. Any calls other than structure fires is not part of the insurance premium payments. E.M.S. calls are the bulk of the calls. That is where the donations/membership dues are needed.

No, I do however spend waaayyyy to much money every year at their fair that they put on.

With that said, they don't have fees, however, if they did I would pay them.

I pay property taxes that include fire protection but I also am inside the St George Fire District and I pay a property tax to them.

I in return get lower insurance rates, a great fire and ems department (that is ALL of EBR Parish - not just St George) and I give a few old cans of soup to them during the Christmas parade and the St George Santa gives me candy.
