You say this as if it’s weird. My grandfathers never would have dreamed of having someone mow their yards, change their oil or hire someone to do something around the house they were capable of doing. I’m the same way. Takes me 30 min and $40 to change my oil vs 30 min and $100 to have someone else change it.

Agree, you get in to the podcasts and it’s a game changer.

Pretty much. On oil and home repairs, I do it because I want it done right. Not hire a methhead to do 70% of a job never to be seen again.
Do you have a wife and kids? Do you work full time? If you have a wife, does she work full time? If so, who is doing every day chores like laundry, dishes, vacuuming, mopping, etc?

I did when I lived in Louisiana and in Utah. For the price I paid and the size of the yards, it was worth it. Here in Iowa, nah. Bought an electric mower and it takes about 45 min to cut/weedeat.

Cut? No. I do the “lawn care”
But I refuse to do the landscaping my wife wants. So I hire out for that.

3 stages of life you hope to go through
1. Cut your own yard
2. Pay someone to cut your yard
3. Cut your own yard

You ask like it is a bad thing to be masculine.

Same here. I suck at doing that.

Have a really small yard but it’s landscaped to the max. I have the crew who landscaped it take care of it. Not much grass to mow and that’s the easy part. It’s the weeding, edging, shrub trimming etc. If a certain shrub looks sick, I call the boss man and he comes to spray it or whatever. I have zoysia and not a weed in it. It’s worth the $ to me. I was an only child and a slave to 2 acres growing up. Don’t want to play in the yard any more. I detail my own vehicles, sometimes do maintenace and repairs but that’s if I want to and not to save $. We can travel, do whatever we want. It would probably kill ya’ll to know we have a pool service and a housekeeper too lol.

I dont have a very big yard. Takes about 1 hour to cut, weed eat, and blow off the sidewalks. Had a couple kids come by and quoted me $35 to cut it. I told them I’d do that. $35/week-10 days is worth it to me.
NO…HOWEVER, if I could get mine done for $35 i’l take that deal in a heartbeat.

No but, I would let any kid do it if they have the initiative. I don’t mind mowing but I appreciate kids doing work in the summer. Plus that’s cheap and you can fix any stuff they mess up. Good for those kids.

Amazing this OT behavior.

Not true. I know a lot of “rich” people who do their yards themselves. They don’t believe in wasting money on something so easy to do.
Just depends on your situation.
Let's say a person lives in a subdivision with a small yard, growing season is roughly March-October, that's about 16 cuts per year, every two weeks.
Let's say a lawn service would charge you $50 to mow it = $800 per year.
If you get a $4,000 zero turn, it's going to take you 5 years to just break even, that isn't counting money spent on maintaining your mower, your trimmers, blowers, etc or your time.
I'm basically in this situation but I push mow so it makes sense monetarily wise plus I enjoy it.
However, most on my street have ~$4,000 mowers and at the end of the day, they aren't really saving much of anything and also have to do the work.

Spreading mulch is one of the worst jobs in the heat, and with the amount of yard space my wife has turned into flower bed, it would take me two days to complete
