You sound like someone that would be a prime candidate for therapy.

I look down on anyone who sees a medical professional, period. I'm like, take a tylonal, pussy.

People that look down on it have little understanding of what therapy is about. A person with zero issues in life can benefit from working with the right theapist., it is like having a coach to improve your mental game. People will spend lots of money for personal trainers, or to improve their golf swing, but laugh at the idea of trying to improve the most important part of their body.

I look down on people who use "depression" as an excuse for failures in life like dropping out of school or being unable to find work.
But I can't fault people who struggle with whatever when they take a step to remedy that by going see a therapist even though to me it would be a waste of money.

I think more people with legit issues should go at least a little bit, which many would if people didn't

If you're not a child, you are definitely showing your ignorance.

I think you're tremendously underplaying what depression is, and what it causes, not only mentally, but physically. It's not something that can turned on and off like a switch. Sometimes talking works, sometimes medication is needed, but it certainly shouldn't be taken lightly.
If you break your arm or leg, you don't just get over it, you seek medical attention, receive medication, get a cast, and have treatement plan. Depression is similar, it usually just doesn't go away. If only it were that simple.

I went for a little bit. It helped tremendously. Paid or not, it was nice to just unload on someone totally unrelated to what I was dealing with. She had no motive related to what I was telling her. She told me when I was being stupid and when my thoughts were valid. It was nice.
I haven't been in years but it helped a ton when I went. I'll never look down on someone who seeks an outside perspective.

I have a lot more respect for people in psychotherapy than someone using pills to cope.

I'm not talking people with PTSD,
Let me enlighten you, an overwhelming majority of people (nearly all) have suffered from PTSD to some degree or another...Nobody from childhood through adulthood goes unscathed....life eventually shits in everyone's Easter basket...for me it was a hard arse Dad as a youngster and combat in ODS....I spent 5 years in men's group therapy that saved my arse. While other's trauma may look different than mine it is not my place to judge...i've always said that I had it worse than a lot of people but I've also had it better than a lot of people....and in the very end no one gets out alive:)

Therapy is a very well proven treatment for a host of mental disorders that range from the serious to the mundane. Unfortunately the stigma against getting treatment for mental disorders is a really big hurdle for a lot of people who need it the most.

Well said.
I always find it odd that people who have never experienced depression feel qualified to tell others how to overcome it.

Unless you've lived a day in the life of the person you never know what shite they've done or how they are mentally wired to cope with stuff.
But you sound like a low-energy baw so you probably didn't get to that layer of thought.

Do you know your personality type now generally speaking?

I mean, I'm an ENFP, but that is pretty general. You don't need an evaluation "generally speaking". You need someone there in your life to be able to dissect your day to day thoughts.

I agree with you. I was just curious. I love this subject in an amateur self-taught way.
