A guy I went to med school with constantly posts photos of himself all geared up in PPE, with Facebook comments about how he’s so brave, a hero, etc. He’s a plastic surgeon

People are so trash and narcissistic.

There's a resident I know who is constantly posting all day about being on the Frontline, how we need more ppe, blah blah.

That resident has been at home since March. Apparently they were scheduled to do inpatient in April, threw a hissy fit about having to go into work because they have a kid at home, and essentially strong armed the program to pull another resident to have to cover inpatient.

That resident who was pulled had a family member at home on active chemo.

Talk about selfish

I’m just glad they are all volunteering to do this. Very nice of them.

It is pretty remarkable to see so many people have a lack of respect for healthcare workers. Especially when they work longer hours in tougher elements than most on this web forum.

Stuff like that is so fricking annoying.

Sure. It's also easy to ignore.

When you include tv, radio, and social media, it's really not.

And the personal effect on you is what? That's why I say it's easy to ignore. It's not non-existent, but when I'm not personally impacted by it, I move on.

I was responding specifically to your comment that it's EASY to ignore. Medical hero worship is literally everywhere. Whether or not I'm personally impacted by it is a totally different subject than whether or not it's easy to ignore. It patently is not right now.

And my response is that if I'm not impacted by it, it doesn't register and I ignore it. Simple.

One of the definitions of ignore is to disregard intentionally.

Good for you. Based on the responses in this thread, I'd say you're in the minority. I have immediate family in the healthcare industry that I pray for safety and health every day and still find the supersaturation of the medical worker praise by every media outlet annoying.
