If you are your own boss, do you care if your employees don't like you?

To answer my own questions I am very indifferent with my boss. I think he is an idiot, and yes man, but I think he means well.

Got no issues with mine. I don't supervise anyone in my branch so I'm good to go there.

I'm indifferent as well. She doesn't understand my job, so she tries to micromanage to learn what I do.

And, unfortunately, I have to care if people like me because I can get canned if they start bitching like millenials do.

No.....

Because she's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and she controls everyone by threatening to fire you for the slightest things...

I've worked with my employer for 27 years, been through 5 directors and in the last 2 years when she was hired, I've never ever felt threatened to lose my job until now..

I like my immediate boss. He's easy to work with and doesn't put undo pressure on. Just cares that you get your work done and is considerate. My boss' boss who I also work with is a little more difficult. He has a habit of throwing projects on you last minute that are fires and need to be done immediately when he could have planned and communicated better. Basically makes things more difficult and stressful than they need to be. But he isn't a bad guy, and he does make a visible effort to make employees feel appreciated.

Imo, a manager shouldn't bend over backwards to appease his employees. Work should get done, and that is the actual primary goal of work, not making friends. However, if you are a good boss then your good employees will appreciate you. If your employees hate you then you are probably a shitty boss or you have shitty employees.

Screw that. Stuff happens, but I don't want to go into work everyday feeling like I could get fired.

Pretty indifferent and tends to micromanage on stuff I could care less about.

I've had better bosses.

As for my employees, good folks...prefer to be liked but not a requisite, staff nor I are paid to like one another but to do a job.

Didn't always think this way but I'm getting long in the toofs.

As far as being fired, could care less. Have never been fired and there is a first time for everything.

Nope.

Doesn't know how to manage people, or projects. Everything is a political game. If he doesn't gain political cred he won't pursue the project even though it's a good idea or request.

I could go on for awhile, but that's the three big things he sucks arse at. All my co workers feel the same way, so its not just a me thing.

I could not imagine liking a boss more than my current one. He is a legitimate transformational leader. When I was a boss I was indifferent as to if my team liked me. Ideally they did and everyone was happy, but if the social dynamics required me to be a bad guy to get shite done, then I was a bad guy.

I'm not a big fan of my boss. He is our CTO. He feels threatened and acts like he knows everything and makes a fool of himself. He makes things up and have us chasing dead ends. When shite hits the fan,he just lies and says I did not mean that. He flip flops and doesn't own up. It makes my job hard but my CEO knows everything.

He treats me well and has good opinion of me.
He is a good person though.

My boss is great as long as you do your work and don't lie if you fricked up.

I really appreciate it after having a sociopath for a boss at my last job.

My boss is pretty cool. He's pure MAGA, knows his shite, and lets me be pretty autonomous.

I don't think the people under me dislike me. I'm fair and only had to yell at and fire one after giving multiple chances.

I like my immediate supervisors I work with day to day. I have issues with the ones further up the food chain, who work in a bubble at headquarters and does not remember/understand/care what it is like in the real world.

My immediate boss is really cool. As long as I get my shite done and on time, he doesn't care what the hell else I do all day, hence why I am on TD a lot during the day.

I took my current job when an old friend asked me to come work for her. Not only is she a great leader and motivator who is basically beloved by all our staff, but our working relationship has greatly deepened our personal friendship.

Most of the staff respect me, but they don't particularly like or admire me, which I have no problem with.

Boss' boss is a major bitch, can't stand her. Deceitful, plays favorites, unreasonably harsh. Leaders should always remember that workers appreciate harsh feedback when the circumstances warrant it, but if you never celebrate success or only find terrible things to say about mixed results, you will inspire only contempt.
