The state seal of Louisiana is actually a symbol of Christ? The legend of the pelican is that in times of famine, the mother will lacerate her breast so her young can drink her blood. That is what is depicted in the state seal, and is a symbol of the Holy Eucharist.

Yes that's why LA has the best flag by far and most badass as I pointed out in this X thread yesterday

The Louisiana state flag features a white pelican in her nest tearing at her own breast to feed her three chicks. This imagery is rooted in a medieval Christian symbol known as the "pelican in her piety," representing Christ's sacrifice for humanity. The three drops of blood falling from her chest signify ultimate devotion and self-sacrifice. Underneath, a white banner displays the state motto: "Union, Justice, Confidence."

It’s really a representation of the politicians being the mother bird, and us people (peasants) being the baby birds that have to depend and feed off of our government in order to survive.

Yep pretty sure it's this. We're helpless babies asking mommy government to barf into our mouths.

You didnt get to see the "firmness" of your instructor's beliefs? Not the full experience.

You’re doing it wrong if you expected children’s catechism classes to teach you much about our faith.

Thats great revisionist history and all, but William CC Claiborne - the first La. governor - determined that the White Pelican would represent the state seal and flag. Claiborne was from Tenn and was a well-known Protestant. In fact, so well-known that there was an uproar by Catholics when he was buried in Saint Louis cemetery
This is hardly a man that had any knowledge of the Eucharist let alone the pelican myth. Also, there was a random pattern of red drops or not for almost 200 years on either the flag or the seal. That wasnt added until 2010
First design in 1804 was actually an eagle, to be in solidarity to the US
The 1st state seal in 1812 used the white pelican
The seals and flag has vacillated between an eagle, white pelican and brown pelican. Also, a varying number of chicks, and blood drops or not. But until 2006 few associated the images with Catholic traditions, and thats why it had to be codified into law, 200 years later. The belief was always that the sacrifice was in relation to the state in regards to its citizens

William C. C. Claiborne, the first governor of the Orleans Territory, selected a pelican for the state's first seal and it was a common state symbol prior to being formally adopted in 1912 as part of the state flag

The former governor was buried in St. Louis Cemetery, but his remains were later re-interred at Metairie Cemetery arising out of anger at Protestant burials in the Catholic cemetery

In April 2006, when the Louisiana State Legislature passed a bill (House Bill 833/Act 92) which requires three drops of blood to be depicted on the pelican used in both the state's flag and seal.

The flag of Louisiana was actually updated in late 2010 to include the droplets of blood.
"The 2010 flag was redesigned to show a more sophisticated pelican tearing at its breast with three red drops of blood flowing down. Historically, it is said that the blood represents Louisiana’s willingness to make sacrifices for its citizens."
