Pathological liar was one of the characteristics in OP. Pay attention and make sure you know what you're talking about before trying to insult someone. Makes you look really bad.

One. Much younger than me, but had a glove fetish and beat the shite out of his brother regularly. Killed animals. I think he's 18 now which is terrifying.

If what you say is true, the women I am talking about could be a sociopath. Her whole family is nuts. But this is an example that I have seen her do personally:
"Psychopaths are more “cold-hearted” and calculating. They carefully plot their moves, and use aggression in a planned-out way to get what they want. If they’re after more money or status in the office, for example, they’ll make a plan to take out any barriers that stand in the way, even if it’s another person’s job or reputation."

Umm... having one symptom of a disease does not make for a diagnosis of an entire illness. Having a headache does not equal brain cancer, throwing up doesn't mean you're pregnant, and being a pathological liar doesn't automatically make you psychotic. So to quote your post, "make sure you know what you're talking about before you try to insult someone."

Where did I post that her being a pathological liar made her a psychopath? I didnt. I just said I knew someone that was a pathological liar. So again, get your facts straight before you insult someone. Just trying to help out.

The cause of psychopathy is different than the cause of sociopathy (1). It is believed that psychopathy is the largely the result of “nature” (genetics) while sociopathy is more likely the result of “nurture” (environment). Psychopathy is related to a physiological defect that results in the underdevelopment of the part of the brain responsible for impulse control and emotions. Sociopathy, on the other hand, is more likely the product of childhood trauma and physical/emotional abuse. Because sociopathy appears to be learned rather than innate, sociopaths are capable of empathy in certain limited circumstances but not in others, and with a few individuals but not others.

You might be right though Rebel sounds like they don't actually know for sure.

I don't think there is much official distinction between the two terms. I have tried looking them up before. I have found nothing that looked officially convincing to me. A lot of the definitions overlap. I think that they are both pretty much just colloquial.

The definitions aren't as clear cut as one would assume, but I think you are talking about a sociopath moreso that a psychopath. Psychopaths will have the same characteristics but will have some psychotic feature as well. Some fixed delusion, for example.

I'm confident that my boss is a sociopath. He's a terrible person to work for. He's very oppressive, vindictive and abusive. It's like living with an abusive parent. Even when he is seemingly trying to be "nice", he has an implied threat attached.

I can't wait until I can GTFO.

If someone has borderline personality disorder, does that make them a sociopath?

Hundreds in real life due to work and scored several using the PCL-R.

Since this is not the Poli Board will not mention one that is frequently in the news....not that there is anything wrong with being one.

i think officially they are both considered anti-social personality disorder.

if you ask 10 psychiatrists you will probably get 10 similar but different opinions. i just remember taking a psychology class and the correct answer for the test I had to take was a psychopath could imitate having empathy and a sociopath could not. I'm not saying that is the correct answer. But it was the answer my professor was looking for.

i also read an article saying many Fortune 500 CEO's have psychopathic traits.
