When I got divorced, my lawyer notified me the divorce was finalized a couple of months after it happened. No big deal, I thought, until I tried to get her removed from my work health plan. HR said they couldn’t remove her because too much time passed since the divorce was finalized. I didn’t dare tell her and sweated bullets for the rest of the year, hoping she didn’t find out and get a lot of procedures.

No this is usually for higher housing allowance. They get more money for housing when they are married.
