My parents built a house within a mile of where my mom was born and raised. So not the same house but literally just down the road from her house and mother. I expect that this is probably the more common scenario in lieu of same house.

I did, but he got murdered in it about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

To do this, wouldn’t you have to never move out from under your parents roof? Or as another poster mentioned, buy it from your parents and live in it until you die?
I don’t know anyone who’s done that.
Buying your first house after living with your parents, and then living in that one forever doesn’t count in this scenario.

My aunt who passed away last year at age 93, didn't live in the same house her "entire" life, but damn near. She and her newly wed husband moved into a small bungalow in the Pleasant Hill section of Bogalusa in 1947, and she lived in it until 2024, a total of 77 years.

That’s actually a good idea.

Yep. An old man in his 90s that passed away a while back from Yuba, Oklahoma. No running water or electricity in the house. He was born in that same house on that same land and never moved. Never married and no kids.
Even into his 90s, he'd plant a big garden by hand. Kind of a weird dude but nice enough.

No one in our family has. The longest was my grandparents, who moved from the country to a nearby small town when my mother was in high school. They lived there probably 50 years plus until they both died of old age, but even then they had lived their childhood and younger adult lives in a different house.
I've also lived in my current house longer than any other I've lived in. Parents moved around a lot when I was a child, then finally settled in one city and I lived there about a decade before going to college. After graduation, we rented an apartment, bought and sold a townhouse, and bought our current house 18 years ago. We'll probably move within a few years though.

I live in the house I was born in. Lived there until I was 18, then went to college, got married and lived about a mile from there. After my parents died a few years ago I bought my brothers portion out and moved back in. Its in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Tuscaloosa. Good location, flat lots, old trees, great neighbors.

What’s dysfunctional about it? We both travel for work to make a good living. We have a good family life.
We were apart of the lifestyle when we first got together years ago, however we’ve moved on from that. It was a lot different then than it is now.
