I know an older couple that moved right at the end of their careers. They went down there for 2 years to set up corporate HQ in the country. They hated it, but they had kids and grandkids back in the states.

Coworkers' son lives there. He's been in New Zealand for work and now Australia for 2 years. Says AUS > NZ as far as a place to reside.
They had to evac. due to the fires for a couple of weeks but otherwise have liked it a lot. There are some truly wide open spaces there if that's your thing.

I used to know a girl who moved here from Brisbane and I lived her accent and she was just a cool arse chick. It made me want to meet more Australians but haven’t been able to since then.

An attorney I worked with in Dallas was later hired by a mega-oil company. They eventually moved her to Perth where she stayed about three years. She said she loved it there.

Have 2 friends in the process. She has been permitted because she is a nurse. He has to finish his apprentice. They dont want anyone that doesnt fill a job need

I lived there for close to five years. Half of that time I was in Sydney, the other half of the time I lived in a small town called Vincentia about three hours south of Sydney. I moved back to the United States due to opportunities. Had those not arisen, I could have happily have lived my days out in Australia. They were some of the best times of my life - newly married and then my first child was born there. Living in Sydney was okay for awhile, but it started to become a drag. Like all big cities, it has its problems - crime, drugs, traffic, and so-so public transportation. My happiest days were living in Vincentia. Higher coast of living, but you make more money in general (especially in Sydney). Friendly people; never had anyone give me gruff because I was a "yank." They're not afraid to tell you what they really think, which I like in a person.
I've considered retiring there. If I do, it would be in a small town on the south coast of New South Wales or inland towards Canberra. Beautiful country.

Knew a guy who took a job there in the early 90's after college and took a job in Melbourne and really liked it. He's still there, he married a local and then moved out to the Snowies on a ranch....station about 1.5 hours southeast of Canberra...pretty country

Lived in Melbourne for a year ... amazing city and country. Would move there again without looking back
