Exactly. We had no authority. And then would invariably come the "I demand to see the manager" line delivered with full outrage that someone dare demand he pay full price.
Everyone talks about how tough it is to be a server and how everyone should do this once in their life. I say bullshite. Everyone should work retail for a year to see how disgusting, evil and petty people can be. At least servers get tips that (mostly) make the bullshite worth it. Retail pays dick.

Don't forget to include commission based retail. Some other "salesmen" loved to take parts of my commission because the customer bought the item on my day(s) off. Nothing like giving 50% commission to an a-hole who just worked the register on a sale that may have taken me multiple shifts to set up and get together.

If the item is $30 or more, I'll usually look it up on my phone to see if its cheaper somewhere else then just ask store to price match. Get Walmart prices without Walmart hassle.

we just hired a kid that used to work at Lowe's. he said they are allowed to give a 10% discount if you haggle with them. can even get more if you ask for the manager.
