Wow. I don't even know where to begin. First, religion and politics have been intertwined since early world civilization. Political leaders throughout history have tried to manipulate faith and vice versa. Secondly, comparing Christianity to Isis is rather ignorant. There are nuts that are religious, but you shouldn't let nuts dissuade you from anything, otherwise you'd be against everything.

The scientific process requires testing your hypothesis, something that cannot be done with the supernatural. Science will never prove nor disprove the existence of God. It's simply outside the scope of the study of the natural world.

Science attempts to gather all facts and information and to form logical conclusions based on all the data discovered.

Faith starts with a preformed conclusion and then searches for data that supports the preformed conclusion while discarding any facts that seem to come into conflict with that preformed conclusion.

well the Mediterranean religions we see today also use faith as a core concept so science is a silly refutation attempt anyway

Try to test your hypothesis. That's the scientific process.

people may do this in their human error, but this is specifically NOT faith. the entire point of faith is that you don't have tactile evidence for your beliefs (and love) but you still continue to believe them in order to honor your god

proof and faith are antagonists and cannot be rectified

Going to church does not make one a spiritual person. It's how you live your life that makes you a spiritual person. Some of the most unspiritual people I know go to church religiously. Some of the most spiritual people I know never go to church

I've been to church once in the last 15 years. It was on Easter Sunday in 2007.

Safe to say my family is religious, at all.

do not. I've slacked off a lot lately. My crazy work schedule makes it a challenge to go every Sunday, but I really shouldn't keep using that excuse to justify not going.

That's a valid reason. You're tending to the needs of the infirm.

Does anyone else share my life long experience that women seem to be more susceptible to religious dogma and superstition than men? I think less men would attend if it weren't for their mothers, girlfriends, and wives.

1. congrats for taking a stand !!!

2. yes, but they set themselves up...[ by not knowing the dangers of 501-c3, beyond the contract ] it's a social thing for them...

3. agreed [ they likely never knew about 501-c3's ]

my folks were different, as a boy, I was escorted by Mom to the Methodist church, most likely a 501-c3, but had no idea what that was at the time, for a short time, til one day I told mom they told me I was going to hell! then mom said, ok, you don't have to go and that was the end of my church experiences til later in life.

so, I neither loved it nor hated it like many do. and I kinda get it! nobody wants to be preached to, but I did find out, some folks love to learn, some love to be taught, and I was one of them, but didn't know it til way late in life, I found a teacher, not a preacher, who taught me chapter by chapter and verse by verse, and the teaching was systemic, I loved it better than drinking iced tea on a hot day, it just hit the spot.

Yes. I think it's because women tend to be more emotional, and I think a lot of sermons are little emotional roller coasters without a lot of concrete information. Maybe women respond to this more easily than men.

Couldn't that be turned around to: " since its only an hour a week, and you're not really there for the actual preaching/teaching, why go at all?"

As someone who grew up going to church, the authenticity of church was ruined by the casual way people go to church, but then put on their serious hat as if they actually care about it at all. All while being selfish, vain, dishonest, and willingly exhibiting these traits.

Church is an attraction and social time, nothing more it seems. Its like a piece of clothing you wear. Yeah, you're christian, check that box and stamp it on your drivers license. People have ruined it for me. No I dont go anymore.

Nope. I have better things to do than pretend to worship things that don't exist.

Yep, I know enough people that go just to throw it in other peoples faces. I mean, its cool to go if thats your thing but if your going to be a dick the other 6 days of the week you're doing it wrong.

Yep. Its exhausting. Its also incredibly demoralizing to find such rampant shallowness, especially amongst adult "churchgoers".
