If you're too dumb to not use Waze while speeding you should get a ticket

My dad got one once and they ticketed him under a code for having “flashing lights” on a vehicle. I urged him to fight it considering it’s protected by the first amendment.

a cop sees you flashing your lights you will almost certainly get a ticket for obstruction of justice.

It varies by state law. Here in TN, it's been ruled that flashing lights is constitutionally protected free speech.

I always flash them. It's my duty as an American citizen.

Sorry that you know a bunch of stupid people. If you're still close enough to the cop that he can see your lights flash, even though you're driving away from the cop, then the people you're attempting to warn should already be able to see the cop. It's too late for those drivers if they are that unaware of their surroundings. I start warning people ahead of me once the cop is mostly out of my sight in rear view.

I used to meet up with a guy driving a jacked up Chevy, without fail, every day for close to a year on my way to work. This dude was FLYING and he had to be going 80+ in a 55 every day.

I passed a cop hiding one day and saw the guy not long after. I flashed my lights in a frantic and I promptly got flipped off.

I never saw him on that highway again.

What obstructing of justice, you are just interrupting their money making or ticket writing quota for the day.
it's a violation of the 1st amendment but almost every single state specifically has a law that states it's obstruction of justice to flash your lights warning other drivers of police presence. Alabama does.

No, flashing your lights to warn of a speed trap or traffic enforcement has been ruled free speech by the Supreme Court.

I highly doubt stories of "my brother-in-law/friend/boss got a ticket for obstruction..."

I guess you could get a ticket for it, but unlikely a DA or judge would uphold it.

You very well might simply draw attention to your failure to use turn signal though.

I flash my lights to warn about cops or if there’s an animal crossing the road.

Couple years ago I flashed an older couple because they were about to come up on a gator stretched across their lane. They both waved to me with enthusiasm like they’ve known me my whole life.

I live in Baton Rouge.
Don't know if you noticed, but there are no cops out that care about speeding or really anything as it relates to traffic violations. They let the cameras and idiots that pay that ticket handle it.
seriously though, i haven't even seen BR cops on the road, much less handing out traffic tickets to warn anyone up ahead.
