I don’t worry about that at the moments

I wouldn’t have put it past certain politicians to try and raid IRAs to prop up social security or other programs, but I figure the chances of hot lead poisoning from someone dissuaded them from trying it.

Yes, age. They were "guaranteed" an amount after 40 years, but now they are deducting 20% for not being 62.

Without knowing the original plan, that may have always been the case. School systems are similar with an age and service time requirement.

The fear is the earnings being taxed down the road.

If they ever tried to take IRAs or 401ks, you would see a rebellion. I would go full Red Dawn on that shite.

I think you overestimate how many people have any sort of savings. I think within 50 years there will be massive support to seize wealth.

We are going to see a huge crisis in the next 10 years as baby boomers continue to retire with nothing saved.

If it got to that point your retirement savings would be worthless anyway. There are a lot of scenarios under which you would be fricked, but nothing you can do about it so why worry?

If that happened, your money would be worthless anyway and the country/world would fall into a state of total anarchy. It would devolve into mad max type shite very quickly if a financial collapse of that magnitude occurred

So don’t worry about it.

I’m on the same retirement system as the politicians in my state and feel pretty safe by default, because no way are those douchebags gonna screw themselves.

You'd better believe it....we just had a president who ran on the platform that he would "redistribute the wealth".....and he was well on his way to doing it. I'm no fan of orange people, but I am damn glad to see our inevitable move towards socialism slowed. Hopefully, I'll be gone before our country willingly puts a dictator and communism in place.

No, but I have some minor concern that extreme inflation will render it mostly worthless.

If you're heavily invested in stocks they should rise with inflation no?

I will lose my shite if that happens. Like have a literal breakdown and start running through the street naked or something. I don't even know. I wouldn't be responsible for my actions.

We still have a president who advocates redistributing the wealth. He's distributing it upwards. Acting like republicans haven't done their share of wealth redistribution is ignorant at best and dishonest at worst. We actually see the effects of that one given the state of wealth distribution in this country.

All they have to do is manufacture a crisis. They are really good at it.

The "Massive Happy Good Bill" will be passed to help alleviate the effects of the next cyclical downturn.

Buried in the bill will be taxation on Roth IRA's at a very small percent, and only for "rich" people. The language of the bill will be such that future increases in that tax are at the discretion of the executive branch.

Increases in the tax will continue because the people being fricked are less than 50% of the voting populace.

It will happen slow enough that no "blood in the streets" or "I will exercise my 2nd amendment" will happen.

It won't be a swoop of the IRA's. It won't but a sudden seizure. It will be a slow incremental seizure. It will be a "tweek" to the tax laws for the good of the country, followed by more "tweeks" here and there.

I worry that SS will be means tested. I wouldn't put it past our government to decide that Roth IRAs need to be taxed on the back end eventually.
