Do you ever know in the moment that this time is the last time?

Like carrying your child into the house from the car while they sleep on your shoulder?
Reading that nighttime book they enjoy before bed?
Speaking with someone you love?
You never know it will be the last time.

It resonated with me long ago, that there will be a moment in your life that is the last time you pick your kids up.
I've voiced it with my kids and wife, they are all aware that I want to remember that moment. They make sure I can still pick them up frequently
I'm going to end up with some odd ball 60 year old holding his full grown child picture and I'm so ok with that.

The last lullaby is such a bittersweet song

This is why when I was taught to give thanks to the Almighty Father for my blessings in life all day every day, it really stuck with me. Because life is good. So that's what I do.

How about spraying dry shampoo in your hair for the last time?

One of the times that really sticks out to me is i just knew the very last time i spoke to my grandmother was a really good chance of being the very last time i would be able to do that.
I just could feel it.
Knowing leaving that room was last time you would ever hear someone’s voice is a very surreal feeling

I don't know it.
But my boys are in their counting to 100 and singing abc song non-stop stage.
I just try to stand back to soak it all in.

I’m 68. My kids are grown and own their own and doing well. I remember well and so miss when they were younger and the little things like picking them up from school. It was the best part of my day and miss that so much

I have two people close to me with terminal cancers, everytime I see them, I leave thinking that I hope that wasn't the last time.

I truly did not understand what "love" meant to my parents when they told me they loved me until raising our own kids.
Mines are 4 and I just hate them being in school. I want to go get them all day long to comeback home because I miss them the minute they leave for school.

I think sometimes you do. The last time I ever saw my Grandfather, he was crying and hugging me as I was telling him goodbye after a weekend of visiting. I never saw him cry until that day. He passed away a few weeks later. That was the last time we ever saw each other. There weren’t any signs that he was sick or anything like that either, so it’s not like we knew he was about to pass away. Dropped dead of a heart attack. But I think he knew that he didn’t have much time left on this earth.

This is one you probably wont know, and its why you have to make a conscious effort to savor it every single time. It takes significant effort to remind yourself that every single interaction you get to have with your kids is one of the most precious gifts you will every get. Countless people on earth and throughout history would give everything, eternity in hell if they had to, to have that moment one more time with their kids. Dont waste a single one of them.
