A girl I know who is a teacher had a kid that came in with extension cord shaped bruises. She took it to the principal and he told her to mind her own business, that its a part of the culture.
I hope she still reported it. Not sure the law for teachers but it's actually the law for medical professionals that if we were to see marks like that on a patient that we HAVE to report it to Child Protection.

Didn't your daughter run away and continue her whoredom with some bbc?

Anytime you have to beat/whip/spank a child it is child abuse. There is no reason to ever have to do it if you have done a good job as a parent from day 1.
You've obviously have never had to cut your own whipping switch.

I've spanked my child twice (hand), and that was only after timeouts, no stories, no playtime and sitting in her room didn't fix the situation. Even then, we made her sit in her room for 15 minutes just for emotions to subside and I wasn't doing it out of anger.
When you get left with marks all over your body, that tells me there was no restraint shown, and it was just an outlet for mom to release her anger.

Absolutely. Take one to your thigh just once and imagine what it feels like to a child's tender skin. I grew up in a household where beatings with belts, fists, kicks, were the norm. I grew up with two parents who had explosive rage issues and that's what I viewed as normal. I grew up a violent, hot tempered man who used violence to get my way. When I had sons of my own, I mirrored the bad parenting of my childhood. It was only when I come to the realization that my actions were perpetration of the vicious cycle and it was time to end.
I haven't spanked my kids in years and I never lose my temper with them and go off the rails. As a result they are now more even keel and seek to resolve problems with their words, not fists.

I'm pretty sure she didn't.

I'd argue that if you would have done this before spanking, you wouldn't have had to spank your child.

I'll agree with this - but how many people do a good job as a parent from day 1, even with the best of intentions?

Sounds like we group up in much the same way.

I was whipped by extension cords, fan belts, axe handles, boards, plastic pipes among other things. I turned out just fine. Stop being pussies.

Yeah man..just crazy town. Walk on eggshells all the time. I was so embittered as a young man I left home on my 18th birthday and never went back. I hated them for years and only recently have me and my father healed. I'm 38.
I still have no contact with my mother after my parents divorced.
I don't want that for me and my sons. Hardest thing in the world is for a grown man to change.

My parents spanked us growing up. Open hand though and was more humiliating than it actually hurting. I can remember being made to sit in a corner for 20 minutes as well as punishment. Spanking was saved usually for when we really did something bad though. So we were only spanked a handful of times. But the lesson was def learned when those spankings happened.
There is a huge difference in spanking being used as part of discipline when other ways aren't getting the point across vs spanking first while parent is in a rage.

I'll be 39 later this month. I grew up with an alcoholic and abusive father. Witnessing my mom get slapped, pushed, and punched was a regular occurrence. We were hit with anything that was near our dad, whether it be the buckle end of a belt or a stick. Crazy way to grow up.
My father no longer drinks, he and my mom are divorced, and there were a few years where I didn't talk to my pops. Now we have a good relationship, but his relationship with some of my other brothers is still broken.
People can call me an idiot for my beliefs on spanking. That's ok. I have my reasons for feeling that way, and research also backs me on the perils of spanking kids.

I agree. I look at spanking as a last resort to get a child's attention that their behavior is not okay, once all other measures have failed. Even then though, it has to be controlled. Every time I was spanked, and the two times my daughter has been, was where it was open handed bent over a knee. Not lashes across your back and arms. To me, that's not discipline, but venting your aggresion.
