Baptist church forbids it right?

Forbid is a strong word. I'd say it's discouraged and it has traditionally been viewed as a sin.
There are probably many reasons why Baptists frown on gambling, but one reason they shun it is because the soldiers at the cross cast lots for Jesus' cloak.

Never heard that. But makes sense. I'm Baptist and always heard it was sinful, but never knew why

Like most things, when it’s done in excess or takes the place of more high priority items in your life, it becomes sinful.

There are Catholic schools that probably raise half of their money through some form of gambling (especially through bingo), but I am just curious as to how big of a moral issue to some people.

Catholic High used to run a weekly bingo game (may still, IDK). Raking money in from the poors to fund their upper middle class school. I know who's the immoral one in that scenario.

Yeah, the Catholic school closes to me has Bingo once a week. My nephew goes there so my brother use to volunteer to work it (parents have to volunteer and there are several options). He said it is old people and degenerates who will spend most of their monthly government check playing bingo. That is sad. And the school depends on that to fund certain things..

Many things in life are good, healthy and fun but once they are done in excess, it becomes a sin. Gambling is one of these.

Gambling and snorting marijuana needs to stay illegal.

I am sure there are people who will argue it isn't, but unless it is completely risk free.. It's gambling and the stock market isn't risk free.. In the slightest.

Investing in the stock market carries the risk you may lose money, many things can be done to manage the risk, and over the long term most investors make money. Casino gambling doesn't have the risk of losing money, it is a mathematically certainty you will lose your money over the long term, and there is nothing you can do to change that.

I don't. Like many things in moderation is not a sin, just entertainment. Gambling too much to the point it affects your relationships and finances where you can't take care of your responsibilities would be a sin.

Just like drinking a beer is not a sin. Drinking in excess is a sin

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (no. 2413) briefly mentions that games of chance and wagers are not bad. It is the emotions that come from gambling that the church feels negatively about. Greed, coveting, selfishness, indulgence, power, worship of money, all of these things can control the mind and soul. Once these emotions are thrown into the mix, God’s law is violated. These emotions must have been St. Augustine’s justification for saying, “The Devil invented gambling.”

To me, gambling out of addiction or in a misplaced effort to improve your financial circumstances are probably sinful. It's bad stewardship of what has been provided to you.

When I gamble, which isn't particularly often, it's not for the end result, but for the enjoyment of the event/act itself. To make the Derby more entertaining, make a round of golf more fun or to get a few hours of entertainment at the casino with my wife. I see that as no different than paying for concert tickets or going to an amusement park.

I gambled on love, and lost my heart
It's a sin that she and I had to part

Knew a Pentecostal blackjack dealer. She wore the hairbun and skirt. She told me it pays her bills. I never brought it up again.
