I think that morality is relative to the situation. You can’t determine an act as immoral or moral based on the act alone. You have to take into account intention and many other factors.

I think a greater question is whether or not morality exists at all. Is there good and evil or are they two different shades of the same thing? Without the dark, you cannot notice the light. Without light, you cannot notice the dark.

To have morality, you have to have a christian god or something close to it. So if there isnt an almighty god who judges from above, how can you determine what is good and what is evil? It’s all subjective.

So how has morality arrived and why is morality a thing? Our planet functions best when we act with compassion and other behavior typically deemed moral. At least for now.

I think your question boils down to whether or not you believe in a christian god (or a religion with a similiar god) because you cannot believe in moral absolutism if you do not believe in one.

Which begs the question if nuclear energy is a net moral good or bad.

I mostly agree with this, but I don’t think intention matters one bit. A Scrooge who donates millions to save billions in taxes does more net good than an altruist who volunteers all his time at a homeless shelter.

Of course it exists.

Wrong. Morality is independent of a god and correlated to is relating to the world as we know it. Social welfare is the determinant of morality, not god. The God of the Bible condones and does some acts that we would deem to be completely evil.

The whole premise of the religion is human sacrifice. Do you think sacrificing humans is a moral good?

I tend to agree with most of what you said, but morality can exist without god.

One can be an atheist and still have a good sense of right and wrong.

And very religious people have done incredibly immoral things.

You need an objective, all powerful, all knowing being. My point is that I can think something is moral and you can think that same thing is immoral. If there’s no higher being to play mediator, then it’s just a bunch of lowly egos arguing with each other.

i think you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying.

I’m trying to say that a set of rules and laws dictating what is good and not good is only possible with an almighty being like a christian god. You need an impartial mediator.

I dont believe in good vs evil. I think that it’s trying to make something that’s extremely complex into something that is simple.

I do not believe in anything particular and I have never been arrested or in any serous trouble. I do not follow any certain set of rules. I just live day by day trying to cause as less friction as possible in the lives of others while doing whatever I choose without being an a-hole. You do not need a "Higher Power Rule Book" to be a good person.

First of all, it is an assumption that such a being exists.

Further, whatever produces the most good for the most people is clearly the winner.

The Bible god condones slavery, something that o believe is an absolute evil.

The killing of a child is a premoral evil, but each moral choice must be viewed in totality. The circumstances surrounding the act and the knowledge and intentions of the person making the choice can be considered in determining the moral value of the act.

It is paradoxical, yet true, to say, that the more we know, the more ignorant we become in the absolute sense, for it is only through enlightenment that we become conscious of our limitations. Precisely one of the most gratifying results of intellectual evolution is the continuous opening up of new and greater prospects.
