...that a person's consciousness can be altered, making them open to involuntary actions, suggestion or direction?

Have you ever witnessed someone under hypnosis, or been hypnotized yourself?

Yeah, it's called LSD.

I got hypnotized many years ago at the Houston Rodeo in front of thousands of people. It was definitely real, still have the VHS tape.

110%. I didn't until an epic event involving my college roommate at an annual campus student event.

I've never doubted since although it absolutely doesn't work on everyone.

Yes

You can get the subject to imagine something that is not happening and never happened and to which the subject responds as if it were "real".

Im responding to your undefined use of the word consciousness as if you were writing AWARENESS.

I've performed hypnosis. It works. Not on everyone, but it works nonetheless.

I've never witnessed or tried hypnosis.... so I probably shouldn't comment. But since you asked..

I do not believe I could be put under hypnosis.

I'd be happy to send a copy of the tape. It's all there to see. I know at the beginning she asked some people to leave because it wasn't working on them.

Yes, I was hypnotized by my dentist in the 60s for a tooth extraction. I felt no pain even with out numbing chemicals.

Pretty cool TED talk on the subject. Really goes in to depth of how/why/what is going on.

Will find a link if anyone is interested.

Can almost promise that anyone who watches QVC network or a television evangelist for hours at a time can definitely be hypnotized.

Outside of that, no guarantees.

Hypnosis is generally accepted as real but it’s not the type of hypnosis that most people are thinking of. The stuff you see on stage with people acting like chickens isn’t real hypnosis. That’s just coaxed behavior.

Deep meditation into a trance-like state is however real. It’s something that takes time though, not a snap of the fingers.
